Cheaper? Yes! You'll have to do some work because it's WOOL!
Ok, I'll admit, mine was one of those that came a little smelly. However, what do you expect from $90 alpaca? I've dealt with worse smelling wool.... and yes, in this day and age, we all expect everything to come to us in perfect condition. Well, instead of paying $200+, I'm willing, and did, to buy a $5 bottle of Woolite and some cheap hair conditioner. I sent an hour, washing and rinsing three times, this poncho by "hand" (I used a floor squeegee to 'smush' it) in the bath tub with cold water. Then, I used the cheap hair conditioner, because it's hair, and then ran the shower on cold and continually flipped and squeezed to rinse the excess off. I stuck it in my garage to dry for a day over a step ladder, and BAM, smells great now.Seriously, it only lost a star because of the smell and extra work I put in, but at the same time, I can say that I helped make this my own AND I paid a helluva price for an alpaca poncho that I'll use out in woods.

Love it!
This was what I was looking for. Use for: Cold office, fall/spring hiking, layering for hiking/backpacking, layer for outdoor sleep system. All the comments about the smell are accurate, and I imagine necessary as insects like to eat this type of material. I washed it by itself with 1 pod in cold/cold on delicate with a slow spin, let air dry, and left to air out for 3 days...did the trick. I read up on alpaca wool, and it is analogous to hollowfil insulation used in mid range sleeping bags. The big benefit is as the fibers get wet the "air chamber" stay intact, and the material is "thin" enough to not pull in a great deal of moisture. Lamb/sheep wool is more scaled as the keratin scales grow into a layered structure facilitating slightly more water induction...NERD ALERT!!! Anyway it is an awesome piece, and I love the vertical stripes. I feel like they blend in better with a deciduous environment. Thanks Latin America...malls?

It's comfortable and warm
It's comfortable and warm. But it's a woven fabric and the warp isn't knotted or terminated at all, so it unravels easily when it snags on anything. Ponchos are supposed to be sturdy outdoor wear, but this is more like something to keep you warm in front of the TV (no cats). You can improve it a little by knotting some of the ends of the warp together, but it's a lot of work.

Lightweight, silky, and decent warmth.
Very soft, silky and beautiful. It is lightweight, but Alpaca supposedly provides a higher warmth to weight ratio than wool, so I'm hoping that is true. That said, it won't afford the same warmth as a heavyweight or even medium weight jacket (in my opinion). My husband is confined to a wheelchair, so a poncho or cape is much easier to get on & off in our experience.

A very nice poncho.
I love the material, the hood is slightly too small, unless you're a small person. Overall I'm very happy with it's construction and quality!Short of wearing cashmere, it's the softest, most comfortable wool I've worn.FYI, I am 6' tall with a 42/44 chest and it fits perfectly (aside from the hood)Note, once you have the hood over your head, you can stretch it out a little by hand to make it less tight. I more prefer a caped type of hood, but this poncho isn't really worn with the hood anyway and it's nice having the hood hang behind your head...it's a very attractive poncho and given the material and workmanship, I believe it's a fair price.I did wear it in the woods and got caught up in a thorn bush...some of the threads pulled out into loops, however, if you're careful about tugging the loops back in, you can easily repair any 'loop' damage within 10 minutes of your time. I found that pressing my finger directly on the loop as if to press the loop through to the opposite side awhile gently tugging the fabric to the side did the trick...no more loops and it looks brand new again!

I bought it because I saw someone wearing one last time I was in CA and it looked like a great garment at the time
Have not worn the poncho yet as it has been too hot. I have tried it on and it seems to fit OK- It is actually bigger than I was expecting. I am 6'3" and it covers down to mid thigh. The alpaca wool is soft- halfway between a Pendleton shirt and a cashmere sweater. The material is thinner than I expected but it packs small. I have many wool shirts so I know it will probably offer more warmth than I expect. My poncho did not have the smell that other reviewers have mentioned. I bought it because I saw someone wearing one last time I was in CA and it looked like a great garment at the time. Hope I have the huevos to actually wear it.

Make Sure the Price is Acceptable for You...
Fits well, high-quality with decently durability. I would have loved some belt loops for the waist, getting annoyed at how it billows out whenever leaning over a sink or table etc. Heat retention is good in temps just below room temps and quite cozy but do not expect it to keep you warm with any significant wind chill involved. It is listed as hand wash only, but have washed using cold cycle a couple times (lost the oily llama smell in the process), air-dried it and had no ill effect. All in all, it is a quality product. I would give it 4.5 stars based on the price point paid (in the 60 dollar range), not the currently listed price point. If you really like this kind of thing, you likely won't be disappointed, but hard to recommend at the moment despite a good experience with mine.

My boyfriend loves it. A bit itchy so he needs to wear long sleeved tops inside. The colour and design r quite nice, also very warm. Fast delivery. Great shopping experience! Thx!

A very nice product.
The poncho is warm and good looking. It is long enough to use as a nice blanket for me(at 186cm) and will keep me warm both beside the fire and in my tent when out camping.Only downside is that the weave is "open" on the ends, and you can accidentally pull yarns out of it if they get caught somewhere. This however is pretty easily mended by tying the frills together as on the ends of many carpets. (i tied about six of them at a time)I recommend doing this to keep the poncho in nice shape for longer :)

Love it!
I'm 6 feet tall and fat, so I'm surprised how well this fits, once I untied the neck string... I did notice that the wool is already started to fray, hopefully it'll last. As someone who's hyperthermic, this is perfect for me!
