DHA for Mental Focus and Macular (Eye) Health
SUPERB supplement for the over-40 crowd as a hedge against age-related decaying memory skills. Also a great idea to research more info, if you have a child with autism or Attention Deficit Disorder. This also may help improve macula health (vision). Please Google for more information.I take at least FOUR of these a day and find they help my focus, memory, and visual acuity. In my experience, these also seem to help my physical flexibility (I think it works as a highly effective anti-inflammatory agent)--I can definitely tell a difference in my energy levels and mental focus if I miss a couple of days in a row. I couple this with a high quality fish oil like this and find the combo works great for me: Carlson The Very Finest Fish Oil Liquid Omega-3 Lemon, 500mlCarlson The Very Finest Fish Oil Liquid Omega-3 Lemon, 500ml.I'd just like to re-iterate an often-overlooked point: it's VITALLY important to evaluate ALL supplements you're taking and be aware that DHA and fish oil have bloodthinning properties, so dosage monitoring/awareness is important. Google is your friend : )Your mileage may vary, but this is one of my most essential supplements & the quality of this specific Jarrow formula seems to be EXCELLENT. Highly recommended!--Have a question about this DHA supplement? Just leave a comment & I'll be happy to help you, if I can.

Economical and Effective
I found Jarrow Formulas Max DHA when I web-searched “best fish oil supplement.” I found a blog by Chris Kresser, and a post titled “The definitive fish oil buyer’s guide.” [...] While this oil was not his top recommendation, it was among his favorites, and it was the most economical among similar quality supplements. Two main factors influenced my buying decision:1) Purity. This supplement is made with anchovies and sardines, which Kresser points out tend to contain fewer contaminants than other sources.2) Cost. At around $19 for 180 capsules (and I take 2 a day), this supplement is well priced.I first began taking fish oil on the recommendation of my eye doctor. I was finding that each evening when I removed my contact lenses, it felt like there was something in my eyes—an eyelash or something. But I could not find anything. Finally, I saw my eye doctor, and he said what I was describing was a very typical dry eye symptom. He sold me a pricey fish oil supplement, which worked really well after I took it for a couple of weeks. This supplement from Jarrow works just as well, at a much lower cost. The capsules are small, easy to swallow, and although out of the bottle they smell fishy, that’s not too surprising nor off-putting. I have not tasted anything fishy at all.

No joke, these SAVED me during postpartum brain fog.
These saved me after two pregnancies. That awful brain fog that happens after giving birth just would not go away, but as the main earner for my family, I had no choice but to continue working very long hours and try to pull it together, even though I found myself unable to complete sentences.I found when I took these pills daily, I did well enough that I could carry on a professional conversation without feeling like I was pretending to be a competent grownup. When I forgot for a few days, I'd be looking around wondering what had changed and why my brain was falling apart again. I'd start again and would feel better the same day. This went on for about 4 years. I am finally at the stage where my youngest is two and I think I have replenished whatever it is I lost during pregnancy and nursing, and I don't necessarily need these anymore. But gracious, these were a lifesaver for postpartum brain fog!

New non-Calamari formula not as good
These are NOT Calamari oil! I have been taking Jarrow Max DHA for over a year and I have really liked it. Unfortunately, they have recently changed their source from Calamari to fish (sardine/mackerel/anchovy). Right now the Amazon description is for the old formula but I've contacted the company and they say they will update it. The beige bottles are the calamari and the blue bottles are fish. I compared an old bottle with the new. The new (fish oil) smell very fishy compared to the old ones which were nearly scentless and I now have the dreaded unpleasant fishy burps, which I never had with the old Calamari oil. BUT, despite the new inferior source, these pills are still the cheapest out there for this level of DHA. Calamari oil will run you 4 times as much and almost all other fish oils with this much DHA cost twice as much. So I'm sticking with Jarrow but I'll only take these at night now because I hate the fish burps all day long.

Best Alternative for Those with Atrial Fibrillation
I'm a disciple of regular, adequate omega 3 consumption. I have taken 2 to 3 grams daily for the last seven years.Research shows (see Pub Med dot gov) that DHA is more effective than EPA for reducing fibrillation and changes to the heart. I was recently diagnosed with AFib so this is important to me.Fortunately for consumers, you have a lot of good, easily available omega 3 supplements to choose from so the difference may come down to capsule size and price. I'm going to exclude capsule size from consideration in this review other than to say these are larger than the Krill Oil capsules and smaller than all the rest I reviewed.I compared six different options I happen to have at home right now. From a cost analysis basis, the cheapest alternative for Omega 3 is Natrol and Member's Mark. Two grams of Member's Mark will cost you $.10 per day. The cheapest alternative for EPA is Kirland and Natrol. Total cost for more than 2 grams of Jarrows Max DHA Omega 3 per day is $.46 per day.Jarrow's Max DHA costs moderately more than the others but also has the highest DHA and it's EPA cost per mg is reasonable.
