Great Item. Would make an ideal and thoughtful great gift.
This is my first digital picture frame. And I have to say I am very impressed with this model.Digital cameras are great. Instant feedback. You can take as many photos as you want, without worry because your only limitation is you memory card. But, what to do with all those pictures - you can't develop them all and display them easily. But these digital picture frames are fantastic. And this Kodak model seems like a winner. The picture frame comes in with a white matte and a black aluminum frame. But included are burgundy and silver mattes you can employ to add some color to your frame. The unit itself has a 7 inch display which is adequate, but not great (resolution is okay but expected for the price and technology). The frame has a touch screen for features (which pictures to display, time to show, transition effects and things like a timer for on/off of the frame). The features are fairly intuitive and do not require extensive study of the instruction manual (always a plus). However, you are not using a 'touch-screen' similar to an Ipod Touch, but rather you touch the edge of the screen to access features. You should be aware that this uses electricity (Silly Rabbit! I thought it ran on air), so there is a white cord that will run from the frame to your closest outlet (the cord is about 5 ft long). You can use either a memory card or a jump drive - which is very nice. It seems as if you have unlimited capacity for pictures then, which means you can add lots of pictures.Overall, this is a great unit. The picture resolution is not the greatest, but it is very decent and tolerable for anyone but the most choosy of photo bugs (and they probably wouldn't bother with this anyway). I have been able to see many great moments thanks to this little frame that I would not get to see regularly because I would not have developed the pictures. In short, this is a reasonably priced unit, with thoughtful features (like the on/off timer). This would make an awesome gift for a spouse, parents or grandparents (or a narcissist: self: how do I look today? :)).

7 inch frame: Great frame, could use better resolution.
This is the review for the 7-in frame, since Amazon has yet to figure out that they need distinct reviews for each distinct model (hello, Amazon?).Fantastic aesthetics on the frame, my wife and I were impressed, and my mother-in-law was even more impressed when she unwrapped it for Christmas. The frame is beautiful, and the red matte contrasts perfectly between the dark frame and white touch border. The software on this frame is awesome, once you get used to the touch border and how to use the controls. This software seriously saved my keester. Story:I neglected to order a SD card reader for the extra SD card I had laying around and planned to use for this frame, since I figured my wife's camera would have no trouble allowing us to transfer pictures from her computer onto the blank SD card if it is was in her camera. I was wrong, and the camera only let you transfer photos from Camera-to-PC, and not PC-to-Camera. Of course, being the master of procrastination that I am, I had waited until Christmas Eve to figure this out. My wife was unhappy with me, and all the nerd knobs in my brain started turning to devise a solution.Alas, I found a USB memory stick with enough space to store the photos, but it was so long that it stuck out beyond the frame. Great. Remember how I said the software saved my keester? Guess what folks, once I had the USB stick and the SD card plugged into the frame, the software built into the frame allowed me to copy the photos from the USB stick over to the SD card. Kodak, me and my keester thank you.All-in-all a really well built frame. In a non-widescreen format, and a bit sharper resolution, this frame would be a perfect 5 stars. As it stands, the frame will either "windowpane" photos, or automatically zoom in on them to fill the screen but then you can't control the cropping that occurs. Of course, you can manually crop in an image editing program, but if you're buying for someone who is not computer savvy, you probably want to remain as hands-off as possible, and preferably just have them dump their digital photos to the SD card and go. The resolution doesn't lend itself well to close-up inspection, or to capturing vivid detail in images (did that hummingbird have 3 eyes?), but it's inexpensive if you catch the right deal, and it looks great from across the room.Mother-in-laws everywhere need one of these, or a bigger brother of it.

Sufficient but not great
It came well packaged but had a crack on the side. It was in a place that would not be noticeable on display. The quality of the digital pictures was moderate, but not as good as I expected. I will plan to spend more money on a better quality frame the next time I make this type of purchase.

Digital frame, well worth the price
I gave this as a gift, but we all enjoy it. The frame has handy features and is easy to use. One thing I didn't realize before purchasing was EXACTLY how one got the photos on the frame. I saw the option to insert a memory card so I assumed there would be a USB cable for transfer. This isn't the case. You need to put the photos on the memory card. I didn't have a card reader, so I went to Wal-Mart and bought a 'holder' for my 4GB card for [..]. That essentially turned it into a 4GB USB memory stick. Now I just plug that into my computer, add photos, and return it to the frame. I enjoyed the included Kodak software. It made it fast and easy to edit my pics, but it caused some incompatibility issues and I had to delete it. If it will work for you, it is well worth installing. I use my regular graphics program now. The frame screen size of 5X7 sounds smallish, but actually is just fine. We have it on a stand that is only about 4 ft. from the one chair and maybe 10 ft. from the other that we use regularly and the frame can be viewed fine. We can also see pics easily as we walk past this area repeatedly. I love that we can see our pics all the time now (or from 1p to 9P with the built in timer). Before I would have to sit at the computer and look at them, which is nice too, but I seldom did it. You can tell I love this frame, the good thing is that the recipient loves it too and has been so happy to have it.
