ThextonTHE485 Petcock Socket Set

didn't work for me
I bought this set because of the good reviews. This set is made in USA and it contains two pieces: the large one is made of metal, and the smaller one is made of plastic. The plastic one is what is needed for loosening the radiator petcocks in both of my cars, while the metal socket is too large for my application.Pros: One can use a 1/4" ratcheting wrench by fitting it into the square hole in the back of the metal socket (cannot be seen in the photo). This is potentially very useful in tight spaces.Cons: the square hole in the plastic piece is bit too large. It kept falling off my 1/4" ratcheting wrench, making it quite useless. I also tried to nest the plastic piece into the metal one but it's oversized by a hair. A nested design would be more useful. Overall, this set didn't work for me. The price is also quite high (over $14) for these two small pieces.

The small piece is plastic but it works.
It gets the job done. The littler part is some kind of plastic and it doesn't want to stay on my ratchet real good. The larger part seems metal but it was too big (long) for my purposes so I didn't use it. I feel kinda screwed that the one part is plastic, a plastic that is already showing wear and tear and I just got it!

Doesn't work on all drains
The Thexton 473 is the closest match for the Chevy Cobalt radiator drain, although it still requires modification to work properly. The Thexton 473 (plastic tool) needs 2 notches cut perpendicular to the existing slot to fit the Cobalt drain. The Thexton steel tool (423) needs the two "wings" cut off, so that the tool resembles the 473, otherwise the wings create a smaller ID than the OD of the Cobalt/GM drain plug.Overall: 3 out of 5 stars. Although this kit will work on standard drains in tight spots, I have to agree with the others that using a simple wrench, channel lock pliers, or other common tools would help loosen those without drama. I bought these for a specific application and they still don't work without some modification.

Snug fit
Works great. Iv only used the smaller one. Wasnt quite wide enough but a little bit of filing and it now it fits snugly on the radiator petcocks of super dutys.

Nice, but Would Be Nicer If Both Sockets Were Metal
I was able to use the smaller socket to loosen the radiator petcock on my vehicle. The only reason I dropped a star is because I would prefer that the smaller socket be made out of metal like the larger socket. The smaller socket is made out of plastic.

makes life easier
I use this daily at work for wing nuts on semi battery covers. Easy peasy with a 1/4 in drive attachment for my impact driver, zips them right off and back on. After almost a year now the square drive is starting to wallow out a bit from the abuse of the impact driver, can i fault the tool for that? Probably not, but I'll be ordering a replacement soon.

Not quite universal.
Does not fit a 2009 Saturn aura drain plug for the radiator. Had to order a Schley 91900. Hopefully that works.

made of Plastic
The larger of the two tools seems to be a quality tool. however the smaller is made of Plastic and is of questionable value. There was no mention in the tool description of one tool being made of light weight plastic.Buyer be advised.
