smooth lead
These pencils write smoothly and consistently, making them perfect for crosswords or note-taking. The graphite lays down dark and clear without smudging too much, and it erases cleanly. What really stands out is how well they perform on glossy paper, where many pencils tend to skip or feel scratchy. The balance and feel in the hand are comfortable for long sessions, and the build quality is excellent. A dependable, classic pencil that works especially well for puzzles and specialty paper.

These made me a pencil evangelist.
Specifically for these pencils. Uni Hi-Pros are good too, but these are the best iteration of #2 type pencils I've ever used. The leads are well centered, they sharpen well, I haven't had any lead or casing fragmentation like I've always run into with Ticonderogas or other common cheap school pencils. They also write very well and feel good to use. They don't have ferrules or erasers, and they don't need them. Erasers on pencils are trash tier erasers anyway that tend to oxidize badly and tear paper. Consider their omission a reason to by a good eraser. A good eraser. Not a pink one. Get white vinyl or the black ones sold by Tombow or Sakura Sumo Grip.

Almost ink like Quality Presentation
One word—superb! Almost ink like quality presentation on paper. I attached an eraser to the rounded end, because I use it for temporarily recording dynamic events

Really nice pencil
Pencil writes very smoothly and darkly with the 2B lead. The lacquer is a rich, dark green with striking gold letters. The lacquer is also thick, and feels great in the hand. The lettering is very accurately applied. High quality pencil. The one thing I don't like is the unfinished tip. Most of the other wood-cased Japanese pencils I have used have either an eraser tip, or some kind of finishing on the end. These are the same, top and bottom. As a result, it just looks a bit unrefined compared to the others. This is too bad, since the pencil looks great, otherwise.

Soooo smooth
Have you tried any Japanese pens or pencils? You wouldn’t think quality would be so different from the US pencils until you try those Japanese ones. So smooth and so strong. Highly recommended!

Tombow pencils are better
I’ve tried many, MANY pencils over the years to try and find one that not only works for school but dark enough for me to see, and so far the Mitsubishi are ok, but Tombow Mono series are better in terms of quality and smoothness (at least my box is) I have used , Tombow, original Dixon Ticonderoga, Father Castell , USA gold, Black Wing, Staedler, and Ton Bow and so far the smoothest was a black wing, followed by the black wing 602 and Mitsubishi 9850 (I think that was the series number) but when it comes to most bang for your buck, the Tombow is best in terms of look, and smoothness. I will use them as I need a box of 2b but really disappointed with the way the lead isn’t centered correctly on these Mitsubishi.
