Captain Underpants and the Revolting Revenge of the Radioactive Robo-Boxers: Color Edition Review: If you have a reluctant reader, this may just be the series to buy... - The Captain Underpants books are full of bathroom humor, bad jokes/puns and everything just on the nice side of gross that so many kiddos (mine are boys) can love. The books are not exactly 'nice' for those of more tender sensibilities but there are two redeeming features that are huge. First, for that reluctant reader, the books are tremendously appealing in that the kids are quite (correctly) certain that this is just for them--as though they are getting away with reading something, well, too cool for the grownups. Plus the illustrations are funny, and there are the occasional directives to the reader to go do something silly that are strangely attractive. Second, the Lexile scores are surprisingly high. I would have not expected this, but the score for the Revolting Revenge is 890. The entire series ranges from 640-890 with all but two in the 700s and 800s. This makes ME feel like I'M getting away with something, it's like sneaking ground up cauliflower into the macaroni and cheese--it's a silly book but hey, it's good for him. Fair warning, though engrossing, the books are not good for quiet time! Things like 2 page 'flip stories' heralded by the loud flap-flap-flap coming from the direction of the offspring, or the sudden outburst of a dubious song are quite startling. Perhaps right in line with a grade schooler's sense of humor, but not with a parent's (or teacher's) sense of propriety in a situation that calls for peace and quiet. My son's reluctant days of reading are far behind now, he's more like an avid reader now. However, he still loves the Captain Underpants books and informed me that CUATRROFRR-B was a Must Buy, and after reading it declared it quite entertaining. He does note that the books do not need to be read in order, but it's better if you do. Highly Recommended (by my children...and me) JTG Review: Another great Captain Underpants! - Captain Underpants has a special place in my heart. When my son was younger he would NOT read. I bought him hundreds of books and nothing. I found a Captain Underpants book and decided to try it. It was the FIRST book he wanted to read. Because of this series sparking his interest in reading he is now in 6th grade and reading on a much higher level. Captain Underpants has inappropriate body humor (love it) and everything thing else that can capture a young boy's desire to read. I was sad that this book was supposed to be the last and heartened to find out there will be another book. The actual book is another great one in the series and my son loved it. He said there was enough action and bad humor to keep him happy and can not wait until the next book comes out. According to the eleven year old boy it was "AWESOME"!!!

The books keep my grandson's attention and he loves reading them.
These are really nice books. I purchased these for my grandson for Christmas as he loves to read and is collecting the Captain Underpants and Dog Man books. He was so excited that I had purchased some of the books he did not have yet. He just loves these books. So glad I made the purchase and will be purchasing more.

Watch our for some inappropriate language
Pros: • Humor: The book is filled with silly jokes and potty humor that kids find irresistible Cons: • Mature Themes: Some parents might find the humor a bit too crude for younger children

Both of my boys adored this series
This series is great for early readers. They're silly and have great vocabulary building. Both of my boys became addicted to these in the first grade. It's a great starter series of chapter books. There are enough illustrations to keep a reluctant reader engaged.

Another in the children's (and many adults) favourite series of Captain Underpants highly amusing adventures in which `wedgie power' is used to overcome a veritable phalanx of comical super villains with the help of a motley and constantly changing cast of unlikely super heroes. And why do kids absolutely love these books beyond most others? `Simple' as that annoying tv advert meerkat says repeatedly, because the jocularity is very basic majoring on `fart' humour, irreverent, fast moving, and one whole lot of fun.....just about everything that most kids lap up. Little wonder that killjoy groups such as The American Library Association features The Captain Underpants books very high up in their lists of books needed to be banned......goodness me we can't be having children actually reading books, and enjoying the experience - its better for them to continue watching television and computer screens and not read at all! Instead of castigating and poo-pooing (if you excuse the expression) the Captain and his knockabout friends and foes, plaudits by the bucket full should be showered over this series of books. In this roller-coaster of mirth, the valiant Captain Underpants does his best to thwart the evil intent of his nemesis Tippy Tinkletrousers, and save the Super-heroes George and Harold from eternal damnation as evil zombie nerds roaming a devastated planet forever. Does he succeed? Read it and chuckle your way through to the Captain's triumph of good over evil.....why, of course he does!

If you have a child who has never expressed an interest in reading for pure pleasure, Captain Underpants is the series you want to read with them. Get over your parental propriety and give into the most sophisticated potty vocabulary you will ever read. Your children won't be able to STOP reading. Dav Pilkey, sometimes I cannot wake my son up in the mornings because he's been sneaking a read of your books late into the night. I have never been happier, or prouder, to bring a series of books into my home.
