Archos 2 8GB MP3 Player/Radio - Black

Instruction sheet that comes with player very basic and no further instructions on Archos website. No mention in these of the radio. You have to find out by trial and error that the volume control buttons don't work on the radio! It is set at the volume you last used the music function. If you want to change the radio volume you have to switch back to music adjust it and then switch back to radio. Supplied headphone hard with no felt pads and are low gain. Found volume levels of unit fine when used with my usual headphones. Sound quality sounds alright to me. Good value MP3 player ( not interested in photos or video functions) but sparse instructions might be a bit daunting for a new MP3 player user.

Lovely compact MP3 player with a Li battery that charges from any USB port. Easy to use just looks like another drive on the PC. I use Media Jukebox to manage mp3's and it transfers files to the Archos with no difficulty. I couldnt believe how many albums it holds - just seems to keep on accepting them. The menu system is great, you can choose artist, album, or track and quality is superb. Simple controls, easy to use. OK I love it! What I'd like - a bigger brighter screen so I can use it in the car.

A solid little device. Looks good. Controls not very intuitive to start with. I found they took a lot of getting used to. Sound is improved using better quality headphones/earphones. Display font size is very small. I struggle when I'm out and about to see the display without my reading glasses(haven't had this problem with other players). Excellent memory size for the price. Only lists by album, artist or song titles (alphabetial order) - not by, e.g. genre, which I find very useful, i.e. if you want just classical, podcast, pop, etc. Couldn't get the video converter software to work (files have to be in a certain format) - am still awaiting Archos support to get back to me on this issue. Great that this has the ability to be expanded using a micro SD card - and great that it has an FM radio, which I found works quite well. So overall quite a mixed review (on balance I prefer my Sony device).

I bought one of these a couple of months ago - very pleased, good sound, good radio, easy to use. Then it stopped working: no power and unrecognised by the PC on connection to USB. So I return it. After looking around, and some more research, I decided to give it another go. New player arrived this morning - the volume controls don't work (well, you can turn it down.... but not back up again!) So... back it goes again. Quality control at Archos is obviously hopeless and it's a real shame because this could have been a great player.... perhaps its just too cheap for its own good. But I won't be buying Archos ever again.

The Archos2 8GB MP3 player is a small, sleek and substantial-feeling player with a styling that takes some of its cues from Apple. The menu system is relatively user-friendly and the sound is quite good, as is the capacity in a player with such a small footprint. It also represents good value for money in my opinion. The radio function is also quite good as well. I would have two criticisms of the device: It is almost impossible to view the display in direct sunlight -- even on a cloudy day and even with the display at its highest setting so it is virtually impossible to switch applications or tracks unless you've memorised the key sequence off by heart. The battery life is also quite disappointing given that this is a solid-state device and it certainly does not provide the usage between charges, stated by the manufacturer. All things being equal though, for the price, it can't be faulted.

Just about makes it as a music player - even for the money I'm not impressed - so I returned it. Idiosyncratic interface - drives you crazy as it's not intuitive , ineffective video conversion software - nothing you convert plays on the Archos even though they provide the software. When you visit the Archos web site to update the firmwire - the model's not listed. Nor are you able to contact customer services. Also provided in the package is a small flyer with link to a website which should offer 35 free songs and 1 free audio book - needless to say the web site doesn't exist. All in all crap. I bought the 8gb Samsung and also the 8gb Philips Go gear - which are both infinitely superior - you pay a little more but it's well worth it. Oddly enough it was cheaper by far on ebay though e-retailer Zavvi.

Bought this for long distance cycling. Very good value. First impressions As a whole seems solid, buttons are a bit flimsy, but very good build quality for the price. Much better than a sandisk i have used before. Audio quality is good, don't bother with the included headphones, get some in ear ones, much more comfortable. Although generally the standard headphones for all mp3 players are terrible. File transfer over USB is quick and easy. Charges through mini usb aswell. Just plugged the player straight in and started transferring, no silly software. Radio works ok and is relatively easy to use. I haven't tried the video feature, other than watching the demo video. Doubt i will put any videos on this as I will use my Archos 605 for that. All in all very good value.

Great sound... Atleast with my headphones... It needs a firmware upgrade... and It's not the most advanced thing out there... If your looking for a player that is expandable, But you want it done intelligently... look somewhere else... Even though the manual says that the media library will incorporate the Micro SD card... It isn't actually possible... So I end up putting My favorite music on the player and other stuff on the card... This thing is also terrible at reading and Displaying tags... It also doesn't display album art.. just a simple spectrum analyzer... which is ok I guess.... It's really difficult to search for songs... and the menu system is a little slow... It will play video but you'll notice a little ghosting... and the color is alittle exagerated... so skin color looks kinda orange... If your looking for something that just plays music and maybe has an FM receiver this is a wonderful player... even if the battery life is a little short... I found that I rather enjoyed it at work when I just told it to shuffle everything... so it just played and I skipped a song every now and them... Which brings me to another issue... The buttons symbols are just painted on... they are not coated with anything... so they won't last long... I like the look of the player... It's simple... That's about it...

Je cherchais un balladeur pas trop cher avec une capacité de stockage moyenne et assez discret. J'ai trouvé le produit idéal. 8 Go qui permettent de stocker assez de musique pour que jamais vous ne puissiez vous ennuyer. Très petit, à peine plus grand qu'une carte bancaire et très léger, il passe partout. Une fonctionnalité lecture image/vidéo mais qui reste plus du domaine de "gadget" étant donner la taille de l'écran. (comme la plupart des balladeurs de toute façon) Une fonctionnalité radio qui marche dans l'ensemble assez bien. Facilité d'utilisation exemplaire, vous prennez le fichier musicale, un petit "copier/coller" ou tout simplement un "déplacer" et hop sa marche. Le son est de bonne qualité mais investissement dans des écouteurs autre que ceux d'origines à prévoir. Une mémoire extensible. Les points mauvais qui lui ont retiré sa dernière étoile. Naviguation lente, beaucoup de "rechargement" d'écran lors des défillements. L'armature du balladeur prend super bien les traces de doigts. Pas de chargement de batterie sans PC, faudra investir dans un chargeur (pareil chez le concurrence vous me direz) Logiciel fournit vraiment discutable (autant se diriger vers Winamp par exemple, sa sera beaucoup mieux) Impossible de régler le balladeur en français (du moins je n'ai pas réussi, faut dire que la notice est très peu explicative...Anglais par défaut) Voilà, sa reste tout de même un excellent produit au vu du prix et les quelques défauts se feront oublier avec le temps. Je recommande pour les petits budgets.

Ich besitze diesen Player nun schon fast ein halbes Jahr und muss sagen, dass ich hier über die vielen sehr negativen Bewertungen überrascht bin. Das die Lautstärke zu schwach ist kann ich nicht bestätigen. Ich höre mit meinen In-Ear-Hörern (AKG K330)immer bei Lautstärke-Einstellung 15-20. Ich höre zwar auch nicht all zu laut, allerdings geht der Laustärkeregler immerhin bis 40. Die Bedienung ist sehr einfach. Ich nutze immer das s.g. Inhaltsverzeichnis, da ich hier meine eigene Ordnerstruktur anlegen kann. Auch die Menu-Führung und Tasten-belegung ist sehr klar. Das Display ist zwar nicht sehr groß aber für die Schrift reicht es. Die Video-funktion nutze ich nicht wirklich. Dafür ist das Display doch etwas zu klein. Für kleinere Clips reicht es aber dennoch. Natürlich hat der Player auch seine Schwächen. Die Resume-Funktion arbeitet nur korrekt, wenn man zuletzt auf dem internen Speicher gehört hat, wenn man zuletzt auf eine micro SD-Card zurückgegriffen hat beginnt der Player nicht dort wo man aufgehört hat, sondern sucht sich eine Stelle auf dem internen Speicher. Auch di Akku-Laufzeit könnte besser sein (ich bin bisher nicht über 5-6Std gekommen [nur Musik]). Die Bedienungsanleitung ist ein reiner Witz, auf die hätte man - bei so einem schlechten Umfang - auch verzichten können. Fazit: Positiv: +Design +Lautstärke +Menu-Führung +Klang +großer Speicher (bei mir 8GB) und noch erweiterbar +Radio +Musik lässt sich schnell auf den Player laden +Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis (für diesen Preis darf man einfach keinen iPod erwarten) Neutral: *Video *man sieht jeden Fingerabdruck (mich stört es nicht) Negativ: -bei mir funktioniert die Menu-Führung über Album bzw Interpret nicht (siehe Diskussions-Forum!!!) -Akku-Laufzeit -Resume-Funktion über micro SD-Card funtioniert nicht -Bedienungsanleitung

Auch wenn ich mit dem ersten Gerät ein Problem hatte (Wackelkontakt in der Kopfhörerbuchse, so dass ein Kanal ausfiel), erfolgte jedoch ein unproblematischer Austausch gegen Neugerät innerhalb einer Woche von avides (Das Retourenlabel wurde sogar am Sonnabend zugemailt). Ich betreibe diesen Player mit den hier ebenfalls sehr günstig erhältlichen "Denon AH C 252" InEar-Kopfhören und habe damit eine Kombination, die für unter 50.- € hervorragende Klangerlebnisse vermittelt. Das "Befüllen" des Players per "Drag and Drop" geht sehr einfach und schnell und man braucht hierfür keine Software (im Gegensatz zu einem sehr bekannten, weit überteuerten Player). Auch die von mir bevorzugte Ordnerstruktur bleibt vollständig erhalten, so dass eine Titelsuche auch Dank des gut lesbaren Displays sehr schnell geht. Mit den Kopfhöhren von Denon kann ich den eingebauten Equalizer vergessen, denn der Klang ist ausgewogen, präzise und vom tiefen, trockenen Bass, bis zu den fein aufgelösten Höhen, sehr natürlich. (Ich verwende nur hochauflösende ~.mp3 mit 320 kb/sec aus verschiedenen Genres (Klassik, Jazz, Soul, Pop)) Die Haptik dieses kleinen und leistungsstarken Player ist gut, wenn auch die Oberfläche sehr empfänglich für Fingerabdrücke ist. Die Verarbeitung ist wertig und unterscheidet sich nicht im geringsten von teureren Geräten. Auch die (negativen) Kommentare wegen Lautstärke, bzw. Bedienbarkeit kann ich nicht nachvollziehen. (Ich höre auf Lautstärkestufe "12 - 14" von 40 Möglichen!) Die Bedienung ist einfach und schnell. Für die Videowiedergabe ist das Display natürlich viel zu klein, auch wenn die mitgelieferte Konvertierungssoftware sehr einfach bedienbar ist, schnell läuft und für die "Größe" gute Ergebnisse liefert. Der eingebaute UKW-Empfänger liefert ebenfalls einen klaren Empfang und gute Tonqualität (benutze es allerdings sehr wenig). Die Kommmentare zur "Bedienungsanleitung" können leider nur bestätigt werden (Sie ist ein Witz und könnte auch fehlen). Alles in allem kann ich dieser handlichen Kombination aus Kopfhörern und Player (trotz des fehlerhaften Erstlieferung) eine klare Kaufempfehlung aussprechen, zumal es vom Preis- / Leistungsverhältnis wohl nicht zu toppen ist! ( 8GB < 50.- €)

First, for the price, this is an awesome deal. For less than [...]I can store more music than I can listen to in a week, listen to the radio, watch videos, and I don't have to pay extra for the privilege of carrying a pretty logo. I love this device because it's simple, tough, and plays MP3's. But... There are some weird little things that don't work like you would expect: 1. The on switch needs to be fixed - you have to press and hold play to really turn it on after using the on switch. 2. Conversion software for Archos Media player need to be easily available on the web, I threw away the original disk and now I can't find anywhere to download the software from the manufacturer. 3. No playlists! (that I understand anyway) I can't figure an easy way to play specific songs or change the order that songs play. But it's cheap and these are minor complaints as far as I am concerned. If you are a member of the technically savvy minority that doesn't want to be locked in to a particular family of devices there are definitely worse choices.
