So beautiful and moving, made me cry!
This is one of the most moving things I've ever seen. I greatly admire Fred Rogers for his wonderful life's work wth children. This movie showed him from an unexpected angle, played most convincingly by Tom Hanks (who I could see was still nonetheless slightly bemused at this unusual role for him). It centres on Lloyd, a hard bitten cynical journalist who is assigned to write up an interview with Mr Rogers. Slowly the wonderfully gentle, compassionate Mr Rogers uncovers the truth behind Lloyd's hard exterior and softly and gently brings him to healing. I won't spoil it, you just have to watch it. It is just beautiful.

The most important thing I'm doing right now is writing this review for you
Yes, it is not the latest Guardians on the Galaxy. That is not why you choose to watch it, right? We all want to be heard and listened to. How often are even our closest loved ones pre-occupied when you are speaking with them. Checking out there phone or thinking about what to make for dinner. This film makes you think about your own behaviour and interactions. One appreciates how much effort it takes to make someone else feel special. To put them ahead of what it important to us. Additionally, the principal of forgiveness and how that can set one free. Mr Rogers worked on his interactions, practiced making better choices each day. Do yourself a favour, make a choice to watch this film today.

Therapy from Tom Hanks
Looking at some of the one-star reviews, it seems that watching a film based on such a genuinely nice man was too much to handle. I guess it's difficult in today's cynical, critical, post-truth generation to remember that some people just want to be nice to others. Yes, you can regard it as sloppy mush or you can take away the important messages about tolerance and understanding. I would definitely recommend this film. It's a simple message, very well told.

A film about being kind and truthful. Tom Hanks and Mr Rogers - what a wonderful combination.
I have looked forward to this being released for months and can honestly say that it has not disappointed. It restores your hope for humanity when you see how simple acts of honesty and kindness can change the course of a persons life. I hope we all aspire to be even a little like Mr Rogers.

Sirupy, contrived, and superficial...
I chose to watch this movie because of my admiration for Tom Hanks, and, indeed his interpretation of the character of TV icon Mr Rogers seems extremely interesting at first sight. But as the film develops you realise that it is very poorly written and conceived. The characters are not credible: they have been conceived to prove the film's superficial and extremely conservative idea of goodness (which belongs more to the 1950s than to the 2020s). We end up with two caricatures instead of characters. The first caricature is that of an investigative journalist who is soon to find out that he should not be 'mean' and 'critical' (the two are often conflated). The second one is Mr Rogers, a 'model individual' who is loved by everyone and enjoys the support of a TV corporation. Why? But, simply because he adheres fully to the film's superficial idea of goodness, which is conveniently separated from issues of social class, revenue, and cultural background. The result is a terribly boring and conservative film...

Absolute rubbish, verging on a B movie
Absolutely terrible, possibly the worst movie Tom Hanks has ever made. Even the blu ray was only DVD quality. It was slow, boring, the character being portrayed by Hanks was soon creepy. A complete waste of money, so bad I actually threw it in the bin, not worth keeping.

I was shocked at the fact that I didn't enjoy this movie!
I love Tom Hanks. He one of my all time favourite actors. I had also seen the trailers, so I thought I knew what I was letting myself in for, watching this. I have always been a bit of an outsider, I've done things much differently to the norm, and was once told by my very angry and irritated co-worker, that I was just "too nice"! It annoyed him!! Lol So....I thought I would like this movie!I shocked myself actually, because I really didn't enjoy it. I understand the premise, I understood what type of character Mr Rogers was, but I actually found him a wee bit creepy, and just a bit "off". I must have become cynical in my old age!! LolI would say, that if you had watched the real shows, with the real Mr Rogers, and enjoyed them, then you might well enjoy this movie.

Tom Hanks was born to play Mister Rodgers!
Right from the get-go you can tell this is going to be a special film. The cultural icon that was Mister Rodgers is so well respected in A Beautiful Day in The Neighbourhood. Fred Rodgers was a very special person who gave all of his heart to the people he met without wanting anything in return. Except maybe a nice conversation. This isn't even really a film about Fred Rodgers, more of a wrap around showing how he touched one persons life and changed it for the better. Being based on a true story makes it all the more moving. The world right now is such a horrible, depressing and cruel place that this film gives a refreshing incite into the joy one man (and his fellow cast and crew) to millions of people. This is a film for compassionate and empathetic viewers who don't mind a good cry. The people who think he's a "creepy" man are sadly missing the point and I think it reflects more on them than the way Fred interacts with people. You must remember Mister Rodgers is from a time of greater innocence and from a religious point of view. He simply wanted to help people come to terms with what life is. How hard it can be but also how great it can be! As mentioned in the film, sometimes good people do and bad things and sometimes bad people do good things. Life isn't straightforward for anyone but with Mister Rodgers as your neighbour, you at least have fun.I enjoyed watching A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood. It does have a few dips in story telling but the acting is some of the best in a long time. Tom Hanks embodies Fred Rodgers wonderfully and shows us more sides than we got to see before.Matthew Rhys is one of my favourite actors and he was perfectly cast as a gruff reporter who thinks he's more important than the rest until he meets Mister Rodgers and priorities become clearer to him.Overall A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood really is A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood! Moving and important. A way of thinking we should all strive to emulate if we are to have fulfilling lives.
