LEER ROLLITUP | Fits 2019-2023 Ram 1500 - New Body Style - with 67" Bed | Soft Roll Up Truck Bed Tonneau Cover | 4R298 | Low-Profile, Sturdy, Easy 15-Minute Install (Black)

I have personally owned and installed a Retrax IX, Gator Recoil, and Roll n Lock M Series retractable covers over the past several years. All three have been excellent high quality covers with their own pros and cons that I would buy again without hesitation. I saw the Leer Roll it Up Retractable on Amazon for $899 and decided to give it a try based on the Leer reputation for toppers and higher end fiberglass tonneaus. Unfortunately, the 400+ Amazon reviews were ALL for the soft roll up version. As such, I vowed to write this review for what seems to perhaps be a recent addition to the Leer retractable product offering. I am happy to report that I am blown away by the product design, build quality, ease of installation, and initial performance of this cover. But, why did I label it as a "hybrid" cover? The slats and rails are aluminum, with the upper part of the slats covered in a single sheet of high gloss very nicely padded material that looks more like a soft cover. The underside is exposed aluminum. The front cannister housing is made of a composite plastic that is lightweight and seems very durable while being much less prone to dents and scratches than a metal cannister. There is one important caveat. If you need a retractable cover that latches open in multiple positions along the rails, this is NOT it. This cover is either open or closed, no in between. Some of the other retractable covers I have owned had the partial open feature in varying degrees that I did not use or need. I realize for some buyers, this is a critical feature. The only other reminder is that this is a "tailgate" locked cover and does NOT have its own lock(s). Again, separate locks are a feature I have had previously that may be important to some buyers. Now, on to the review. The packaging of the unit was extremely rugged and in perfect condition upon arrival. However, the instructions said there should be two boxes with the rails shipped separately, which was not the case for my application. Everything was in one very well-padded box with plywood in the ends for structural support. The cannister and retractable tonneau were pre-assembled with the pre-assembled rails and cannister lid wrapped up separately along with a hardware box and bag. Installation was typical for this product category with every one I have installed being quite a bit different. All have taken me about 90 mins by myself from box opening to photos. The included instructions from Leer are pretty concise and adequate only after reviewing a couple of times in close detail, the pictures are quite helpful. This is a good thing since an online installation video wasn't available as there have been for the other three retractable covers listed above that I have installed. Only a couple of are tools required for the entire install. The rail clamps require assembly, are adjustable, and hold very well. The instructions specifically mentioned and pictured two different size clamp lengths for my application, but I only had one size of clamps (short) in the hardware box. They worked fine, so not sure about that issue. This was the first cover I have installed with a specially-designed "kickstand" mechanism that levels the side rails near the tailgate, and it works very well. The bulkhead, side rail, and tailgate seals all appear to be of exceptional quality and I look forward to seeing how they hold up over time in the FL sun. The tailgate seal in particular is of note as it lays over the tailgate and looks to be a significant design improvement (pictured). Be careful, as it is only attached to the rear of the tonneau via a T-slot on the edge of the grab area and is easily dislodged (trust me on this). Once it came loose, this required removal of the rail endcaps to re-install the tailgate seal into its T-slot. I secured the tailgate seal to ensure I don't get to do that again as it was not easy at all and very much unplanned (this time was in addition to the 90 min stated above). The cannister lid, front bulkhead weatherstrip, and drain tube installations were straightforward and similar to previous installs. A pre-attached pull strap is heavy duty and has plenty of length. The latch release mechanism is made up two prongs in the center rear of the tonneau that can be operated with one hand, sending the cover retracting into the cannister. I initially like this latch design MUCH better than the pull cable type release or required key to open the cover on some other models. Overall, I am quite pleased initially with the Leer Roll It Up Retractable tonneau cover despite the couple of issues with the instructions and the lack of an installation video. I will update this review after some time and hope it is helpful to others considering this tonneau cover.

Wanted to leave a review on this product to answer some common questions people may have (as I did). First off - it looks great after install, you wont be disappointed with this soft roll-up cover.Second - It shows you how to measure the bed. Says it fits a 5' x 7" Mine measured 5' 6" (no damage to the bed). I was a bit reluctant to buy because of that and caused me to spend even more time trying to find a cover to fit a 5' x 6" box. 1" inch may not seem like a-lot but the Dodge Ram 5th gen box has a deep top surface on the tail gate. I moved it back an inch and it fit fine.Third - Installation instructions come with it. Read entirety. The "Front" bar (attached to the top cover) has 2 slides IN THE RAIL that may move in shipment. Looking at the picture, If the slides moved towards the middle or to the other end it will look like your missing something. The rest is all downhill.Fourth - 1 person can install this cover in about 15-20 minutes.Fifth - Already been through a Thunderstorm and still dry inside. No water pooling.Sixth - Product shipped timely, arrived undamaged. I am happy with this purchase. I strongly recommend this cover if your looking for a soft roll-up.

Fits my Ram 1500 well and I am pleased with the quality of the cover. This was my first time installing a tonneau cover. It took me a little over an hour to install. Everything went easily except for the corner brackets. I ended up using a straight slot screwdriver behind the rear nut housing to press it forward so that the screw would engage in the nut. I plan to apply UV protection as recommended by a friend.

Very nice cover, was easy to intall and not too tight to close at all. Was missing the hardware kit but Leer was very quick to respond and shipped a replacement kit quickly.Nice thick vinyl and seems sturdy. Latches on both side but opens from the middle. I think we will be very happy with it. Don't hesitate to buy this tonneau cover.

2019 Ram rebel 1500 and it fit perfectly. Easy assembly, water tight, pleasantly surprised at the quality for the money.

Arrived on time and installed very quickly. Looks good and keeps the bed dry during hard storms. Would be again. Recomend to a buddy and he got himself one and is very happy with it.

Avoid this product! I did a lot of research before buying this product as I knew I wanted a roll up cover on my new truck and wanted it to last a while. Based on my research this appeared to be a good unit and trusted the brand. What a mistake I made. To start with, the first time I ordered this, they shipped me a set of seat covers and not the cover. It was an argument to prove that they sent the wrong product. Finally got that resolved and reordered another unit. Worked great the first few weeks after receiving. Then after about a month (of course when the return policy ends) one thing after another started failing. Most of the gasketing is either cracked, peeling, or just coming apart making the seal basically useless to keep water out. Then the seal between the end of the unit and the tailgate comes off when opening the tailgate one day. Then the rails that the unit slides on starts coming apart when you pull the unit closed. I contacted customer service and was told that this is due to abuse and they will not do anything to resolve the issues. I tried to reason with them that if it was one or two little things that would be one thing, but literally every component of this product is coming apart. They failed to agree and washed their hands of it. I then tried to go through Amazon’s A to Z guarantee and was also denied. So now after owning this unit for less than 2 months I’m stuck with a useless $1,000 truck bed cover with no help from Amazon or the manufacturer. Very disappointed in this product and will be sure to avoid this manufacturer in the future.
