Depends on how much stuff you put in it.

Q: does this item ship from china?

Perhaps if you buy from a third party seller or an item that is not Amazon Prime. The version I purchased was Amazon Prime with free returns and it was delivered in 2 days as expected, so I assume it came from a US Amazon warehouse. Easily returnable via UPS drop off (mine had loose threads). The item itself however does state "Made in China" on the clear manufacturing bag it came in. Remember to check that you want Amazon packaging if you don't want the whole world to see, and beware that if there's an issue and you have to exchange it it might come in a clear bag because you don't get an option. This happened to me and I will be writing a seller review.

Q: The buckle in the picture is plastic, but the pictures in the reviews have a metal one. What is the buckle made out of and is it easy to open/close?

I have the hearts and the flowers one and both their buckles looks metal, the same material of the zippers and the hanging hook. The buckle is very easy to use
