Aka bailing wire (or something like it)
Back in the day this stuff (or something similar) was called bailing wire and it pretty much held the world together. It still does around my place. (My lawn mower's steering rod, for example, is held in place by this stuff even as you read these words.) A pair of pliers (for forming, twisting and tensioning the wire), a wiresnip (for cutting the wire to length) and a roll of this stuff and you have a formidable repair kit at a nominal cost.

Good tensile strength rusts almost immediately coating is merely a suggestion but good price does the job
