Works for Sony VAIO TXN27N
I bought a Renice K3VLAR 1.8" PATA ZIF SSD 128GB (Renice Z2), and while it worked well, I was getting data corruption over time. As soon as I saw that I could use well known manufacturer's SSD (for example, Crucial) in a Sony VAIO TXN, I purchased the Micro SATA Cables mSATA SSD to 40pin ZIF adapter. Eureka! It works. The primary difference here is that when you install it in the Sony VAIO TXN27N, you have to install it FACE DOWN (port down). The original Toshiba MK1011GAH is installed port side up. I thought the device was incompatible initially because nothing happened when I initially detected. After flipping it around, all's well. Another note, the device is VERY small (about a 1/3 smaller than the 1.8" HDD). It's slightly larger than the mSATA drive, so you'll need to figure out a way to keep it from moving around too much and detaching itself, so I used a thermal pad strip to "glue" it in place.

Did not work at all...
The unit failed to work with Crucial M550 256GB mSATA Internal Solid State Drive CT256M550SSD3 installed in it. There was no detection of the drive at all. The experiments were:1) did not work in the Sony VAIO VGN-UX280P 4.5-inch Laptop (Intel Core Solo Processor U1400, 1 GB RAM, 40 GB Hard Drive) to replace a Generic US 1.8" TOSHIBA 100GB MK1011GAH for DELL D420 D430 &KOHJINSHA Kjs SR SX3 SC3.2) It also failed in 1.8-inch ZIF LIF (iPod) Hard Drive Enclosure Case for Toshiba Hitachi Seagate Samsung Drives with ZIF-40 Connector (Color Assorted) as well. The Crucial M550 256GB mSATA Internal Solid State Drive CT256M550SSD3 worked perfectly in Sabrent USB 3.0 mSATA II or III/6G SSD Enclosure Adapter [Support UASP] (EC-UKMS) but not in Micro SATA Cables - mSATA SSD to 40 Pin ZIF Adapter Card as Toshiba or Hitachi ZIF HDD.I returned the unit and have requested for a replacement. I will redo the review if the second one works...[Update 20150207] Ordered an identical unit while the first one was in return transit and once the new one showed up it worked like clockwork. Can not complain anything about this unit anymore, the QC of these units leaving the manufacturer or the seller should improve but if working this unit is pretty painless and effective. 4/5 simply due to QC issues.

Did not work.
It did not work in a Sony Vaio VGN-TZ150N. The bios did not recognize the drive. A reviewer said he ordered a second one because the first did not work, so I tried it twice, too. Failed both times. Too bad.

Some Notes From My iPod Upgrade Experience
This mSATA to ZIF adapter was used in a recent iPod upgrade project, along with a MyDigitalSSD 128GB (120GB) 50mm Bullet Proof 4 BP4 50mm mSATA Solid State Drive SSD SATA III 6G - MDMS-BP4-120 to update a 30gb 5.5gen iPod Video (aka classic) to 120GB storage capacity. There are a few things to note if you're considering this adapter for a similar project:- The adapter connects almost "upside-down" from the way you'd expect it to. This isn't really a negative, but it can easily cause confusion.- The adapter includes screws to secure the SSD, which is nice.- The adapter/SSD combo is smaller than the original HDD in the iPod, so you'll need to cut some foam to keep it from rattling around inside.- You might need a product like Syba mSATA SSD to 2.5-Inch SATA Adapter (SY-ADA40050) and a SATA-to-USB adapter to format the drive before installation.- The SSD and adapter combo I used does not get very good battery life. I believe this is due to the SSD I chose and not the adapter. Your milage may vary, so to speak. All feedback on helpfulness is appreciated.

Fails on Dell system
I bought this item to port an old Dell D430 with a Samsung 64 GB PATA SSD to a new Crucial M4 256 GB drive. The drive failed to be detected by Dell's BIOS, though. I further attempted to connect the drive externally using a ZIF to USB adapter chip from a ZIF USB enclosure. Again, zero luck. The Crucial M4 drive before and after worked perfectly in other devices, and Dell D430 accepted the old Samsung SSD back without a hiccup. Unless I got a defective item, I have to acknowledge that this device does not play well with Dell systems. Perhaps, the firmware is not as versatile as expected.

Great alternaitve to the more expensive PATA drives
I purchased a usata ssd for half the price of the pata one and used this adapter to fit the 120GB micro sata ssd to my old Compaq Mini. The performance (Windows 7) is unbelievable compared to the ultra slow 60GB standard drive it had before. This came complete with two ribbon cables to help with fitment to different applications. I was back up and running very quickly, and no long wait for boot up.

I now have much faster iPods that wont skip after being shaken like while jogging or offroading
I used these along with the MyDigitalDiscount 240gb mSATA ssd to upgrade a 5.5g video ipod. I now have much faster iPods that wont skip after being shaken like while jogging or offroading. For less than $120, this is the best upgrade I can think of. Next is RWA iMod to the 5.5g. Now on to the hours of syncing for each one. If only Apple had cared enough to use Thunderbolt or even USB 3.0 in iPod. And to not have gotten rid of the hard drive based iPod that can be modded.**UPDATE**This did not work with 6.5 gen 120gb or 7th gen 160gb ipods. Look for Tarkan iFlash.
