Great projector. Love the 3D. Lacking a few options but great overall.
One problem I have is that I use this primarily from behind the couch, at about eye level. At this particular height (probably the least common), the image is projected too high for the space I want it in. The instructions say the project has to be fairly level when in operation (I think the allowable angle change from level is +/-15°). So basically it has to be at coffee table height or hanging from the ceiling. Bluetooth audio capability would have been nice. A larger range of screen sizes via the zoom function would have been helpful. More input options would have been nice too...it only has 1 HDMI port and nothing else. There is a USB power OUT port, but not sure what I would use that for...I tried to use it with a USB-powered JBL speaker, and a loud piercing noise was observed. Overall, though, I love it. The screen is fairly bright even during the day. I am currently projecting on a non-prepped, light gray wall until a permanent solution is decided upon, and I am still amazed at the quality of the image. I may do nothing further as far as the 'screen' is concerned. My main reason for selecting this model was its 3D capability. It's outstanding, at least to my eyes. Again, I am projecting onto a light gray wall--I was wondering if the 3D would work at all but it does, fabulously. It has 2 3D modes (i forget what the second one is) but I use DLP Link mode and DLP Link glasses that I bought here at Amazon: -DLP Link 3D Glasses, ELEPHAS 144Hz Rechargeable Active Shutter Eyewear for Most DLP-Link 3D Projectors- Acer, ViewSonic, BenQ Vivitek, Optoma, Panasonic, Dell, Viewsonic (4 Pack) In case you were wondering, 3D DLP Link glasses sync with the images on the screen by a nearly invisible (to naked eyes) rapid white flash embedded in the 3D video. These should not be confused with 3D DLP glasses (similar name but without the 'LINK') which require an IR emitter pointed at the viewers to sync the glasses for proper 3D viewing.

Bright image, quiet fan, great projector
Bought this projector to replace an acer brand projector with a failing fan motor. We have the projector in the family room and use it daily to watch TV programs and movies. On average it gets used about 15-20 hours a week. The projector is much quieter than any other DLP projector Ive owned over the years. In fact, even with a "library level" of sound, I can not hear it running at all when the projector is in eco/regular mode. When in bright mode, for 3D movies or gaming, a very modest fan can be heard but it certainly on par with any other comparable DLP projector. The thickness of the projector itself and also its depth front to back, is a bit bigger than others ive owned but only by about an inch or so. The remote is backlit when buttons are pressed which is a nice touch. The image is bright enough that I can comfortably watch tv with 4 60watt ceiling fan bulbs being on and the image isnt washed out, but of course this and any other projectors are designed to be used in low light environments, in which this projector has a superb image quality. Multiple digital adjustments of keystone, image position and digital zoom to make fine adjustments to image size and even can adjust the levelling of image if your projector mount is not level or maybe your screen masking is not perfectly straight. A two part adjusting lens lets you dial in the perfect image size for your setup too. This projector is for a throw distance of about 15ft max for a 100" screen image. My throw is about 11ft from the lens to the screen and I have it projecting an image size of 110" wide X 66" tall. I havent used the 3D capability of the projector yet but anticipate the quality to be on par but perhaps even better as there are multiple 3D settings/options for the best experience using that mode just make sure you have 3D DLP shutter lens glasses. Overall, I am very pleased with this projector and would recommend it to others eapecially if looking to have a high lumen output that is for everyday use as a primary display in the home. I did purchase the amazon offered insurance/warranty based on service level and price alone versus cost of projector and its typical lifespan.

Gaming mode will not work if you need keystone adjustment or digital zoom.
I bought this based on all the marketing and reviews for this projector saying that it has very low input lag for gaming. That may be true, however there is a big caveat with this. Once I switched to the "Gaming Mode" to get that low input latency, projector removed all of my digital adjustments such as keystone and digital zoom. This means that for me to use this projector in its full, low latency mode, I have to position it EXACTLY to the height of the screen so that there is no keystone adjustment is needed, as well as as exact distance from the screen, to not need additional digital zoom. Unfortunately both of these do not work in my small room. Projector is too close to the screen even with the lens zoom all the way in, so I have to use digital zoom to shrink the image even further to fit it on the screen that I have. Also I cannot position this projector low enough to not require a keystone adjustment. Both of these make the Game mode useless to me. I understand that this is particular circumstances and not everyone will have these issues but it may help someone who is in similar situation to make a better decision. Overall projector is actually pretty decent. Picture is bright and clear. Watching on a grey screen boosts the contrast and with the blinds down it is actually a very nice picture during the day. Also I've been gaming on this projector and even without the gaming mode on, I honestly have no issues with whatever input lag it has in it's normal settings, so it is still very usable for me.

my first projector and now I'm a convert after 3 great years of use
I don't have a lot to say, but I've been very happy with this projector. I've been using it on a low table with a small projection grade mirror sat on a angled book display stand to bounce the image onto the ceiling to be able to watch things lying down. The image adjustment options work very well to get a square image, and it's been working great for three years of regular use with no bulb replacement needed. It was my first projector so I didn't have a lot of expectations when I started, but one thing that really stood out to me was how bright the image is, such that I didn't have any complaints using it even with a good amount of ambient daylight (still draw the curtains of course, but they're not blackout). I more than got my money's worth, and now recommend projectors to others based on my good experience.

Really great projector with one flaw.
This projector is the latest upgrade to my home theater. The picture is razor sharp if you are streaming 4k or at least 1080p. the color is really good. It's fairly quiet. We watch movie while sitting about 6ft below it. The fan cuts on and off for cooling. It is not distracting like my previous projector (Wimus brand. Not bad but loud and picture not near as good). The HD146X takes about 15 to 20 seconds to warm up when first turned on. No problem there. I'm very happy with the performance. I have it paired with a Klipsch 7.2 surround sound system. Movies with this combo are amazing. I also play COD (xbox) on this projector. All I can say is WHOA!! fast response. Excellent refresh rate. Love it. There are a couple of things that I wish were better but were not deal breakers for me. 1) the projector has to be mounted to align with the center of the screen. In my case I had a ceiling fan there but ended up replacing the low hanging fan with a flush mounted base fan that positioned the fan closer to ceiling. After mounting the projector with an extension arm to lower it, I was able to put the projector in the center of the room. 2) This issue was a bigger problem than the centering. The mount. Apparently a typical universal mount doesn't work with this projector. Optoma has a proprietary mount that must be ordered from them specifically for this line of projector. I was infuriated by this. I already had a mount from my previous projector. I didn't need a new one. I had to take the mount I had down to my shop to grind, cut and drill for my universal mount to work. Most people won't have the resources for this. I barely did. It was way more work than I should have to do. The Optoma mounts are expensive and take forever to get. Consider these things before you buy. If you have a drill and the correct size mount screws, you can make a universal mount work. I'm very particular so I didn't like having a home machined mount. Bottom line. Great projector, terrible mount configuration.

Amazing value if you want a massive great quality screen.
So impressed, massive screen now in the basement, paired with a sound bar I mounted to the ceiling using command strips. If you want a massive screen you really can’t beat the price. Video doesn’t do it justice but it has great clarity, smooth, looks great! So happy with this purchase!!!!

Plan on always being irritated before watching a 3D movie!
The projector is bright and decent picture for a DLP. 3D WARNING, this projector has an irritating green screen (submitted image) that pops up before a corrupted 3D image. You need to pause your 3D movie. TURN OFF the projector then TURN on the projector and it clears it. Optima has no clue what is going on (never saw it happen before). They expect me to send in the projector for repair after I just bought new from amazon! You'd think they would replace it? NOPE! And their customer service only directs you to filling out a standard form for repair instead of perhaps helping out with this particular situation. They could care less! The projector also loses its zoom position and focus position after a few weeks, so don't mount it anywhere you can't easily reach. I do recommend seeking other options. This projector, despite its image has been a big disappointment for me. UPDATE---The remote is extreamly annoying. Takes five or six times to turn projector on and off because some genius put the receiving sensor on the bottom of the projector and not in front! I've delt with it, but it's irritating enough now to add this since I lost my patience and want to throw the remote into the wall every time. It has nothing to do with the plastic film over the sensor!! I had that removed since day 1! Update! Remote still is annoying garbage!!! 1/28/21 8/01/21 There are a number of scattered blacked out pixels I noticed on my projection screen. That's insane for a projector just over 1yr and a few months. Only fix I researched was replacing a chip that could cost up to $150.00. SEE NEW IMAGE IN BLUE-Those tiny pixels are slowly turning black!! After 1 year!!! Look elsewhere! 10/5/2021 I gave up on this failure of a machine and bought a Viewsonic PX701HD. Life just got so much better! Super quiet fan. Remote works like a normal remote. No 3D issues! Don't be fooled by the contrast ratio difference vs Viewsonics. Viewsonic is less but I sure as heck can't see any difference in the image quality. And 100lumens less isn't a major difference either. Optima is out of my life for good now.

Viable 1080p projector
I’ve gone through a gamut of projectors over the years starting around 2018 and have found Optoma to strike the chord of affordability and quality. With that said, this model, the HD146x has a clear, accurate picture, definitely full high definition image. I had been reluctant to upgrade to 1080p since my 720p Optoma had been doing me good for years. But, for a good price I got the 146x and I can definitely see an increase in clarity from 720p. Image is bright and brilliant in moderate lighting even while the projector is set to eco mode. There isn’t much menu settings to tinker with color profiles and such. I’m trying to dial in the contrast and brightness ratio on my set up. One thing I do not prefer is the dynamic black setting. I think it tries to adjust for white and dark images from scene to scene. But i think its unnecessary. Brightness and contrast looks fine without that option on. When on i think it makes the projector work harder as the fan revs up when bright scenes appear. Without the option on the fan remains nearly inaudible in eco mode and dynamic black off. This model is rather large compared to my previous 720p optoma model. The plastic housing doesn’t feel durable either. While running the projector, the plastic housing definitely becomes hot to the touch. The glossy finish on the top easily becomes scratched and smudged. All in all, I don’t see this model as practically portable. At 11.5 feet i am able to get about an 82 inch wide image. Overall, for the price point this is definitely a high quality product if you’re looking for a full HD projector. Image does not disappoint. Live TV, sports events, movies and video games all look great and perform and play well.
