Many uses, great for gluten-free!
I eat a gluten-free diet (have for over a decade), but only recently started using a sifter. It's made a big differance! Rice flour is a staple in many recipes as it has a neutral taste and good protien content, but it has one main flaw: grittiness. The first time I ran brown rice flour through this sifter, it pulled out all of the grit! That wasn't even the reason I purchased it (I got it for better dusting worktops), but it's become it's main use!! Gone is the "gluten-free gritiness" that it typical of cookies and other "dry" baked goods. (In moist things, like banana bread, there's enough liquid to soften the larger particles). The bits left behind are about the size of cream of rice/wheat cereal, for size reference. Once sifted, the flour is the same quality as the MUCH more expensive "superfine" brown rice flour.I also have used this for other tasks in the kitchen. It works great for rinsing grains (ie, rice) that would fall through the holes in a typical colander. Also useful for straining soups of sauces.

On the small side
On the small size. I guess I need to figure out how big five inches in diameter is. It does fit in the hand well. I just found it a bit uncomfortable while trying to sift the powdered sugar. Overall, it did a good job. I would recommend for small projects, but if you have a lot of sifting to do, go with the bigger sifters. This is great for just dusting cookies with powdered sugar.

Good quality, good size, very useful
A very good friend from NL was visiting me for 6 weeks. She loves to bake, but my kitchen was not quite as completely outfitted as she wanted. This flour sifter was one of the essential items she requested. After getting it and using it she found she liked it better than her own... and wanted one to take back with her. It's well-made and a useful size. After using my Dremel to inscribe it with a personal message and date, I sent her the one she used here as a souvenir of her time in California.... baking amazing, delicious cakes! Guess I'll have to buy a new one before she shows up here again! (it'll be worth it!)

The Mesh Is Too Tight To Sift Flour
This flour sifter appears to be well made, but the mesh is so fine that I couldn't sift white flour using this, and had to transfer it to a strainer.

this works fine for flour
As expected, this works fine for flour, but it is a little small. The smaller size was a nice surprise because it works great for spoonfuls of spices that I buy in jars without sifters. Also did fine in the dishwasher and no rust, very nice addition to my kitchen.

Misses the "Goldilocks Zone"
I initially ordered the 11-inch version to sift bran out of my flour to soak before baking, but the diameter was too large to shake over most of my bowls and I had to angle it to keep from sifting flour all over the countertop. So I ordered this one and found that the mesh (which is also ultra-fine) does a fine job, but I can't put much flour in it without it shaking over the sides while I sift. If this company offered a sifter with an 8" (or so) diameter, that would be more ideal. I still use this but it takes several batches to get all of my flour sifted.

nice small sifter
Thanks to everyone's reviews, I was prepared to get a small sifter. While I had hoped to find a sifter that was slightly bigger that could be multi-purpose, I primarily wanted something to sift powder sugar over desserts, and this works great for it.I have had this for more than a year now, and find myself using it for all my baking. Where I used to skip the sifting step, I use this now all the time. Since its small it does not require much storage and is easy to clean. No more bitter baking soda taste in my baked goods!

Too Small and Easily Dented
I didn't want a larger sifter, because I only use it over fairly small bowls, for fairly small jobs. That said, this little sifter takes, like, FOREVER to sift anything. Worse still, it arrived so badly dented, to describe it as "round" would have been extremely optimistic. One whole side was pushed in a bit, but even so, it still shouldn't take that long to sift. That being said, it does sift very well if you have the patience. It catches all lumps and inclusions that you don't want in your cake flour, sugar, or whatever else you are sifting. If not for that last bit, I would have given it one star.
