I bought this to replace my existing remote for the VSX-43 AVR. Over time, the power button and the volume buttons no longer worked without me pressing down on it extra extra hard. It got to the point where I used the mobile app to control the AVR.First, I have to say that this remote looked exactly like my old one. Every button was identical. Second, like everyone said, just pop in 2 new batteries and it works right away. No programming of the remote was needed.Everything worked like the original OEM remote except that it did not take the code for the TV control. It's still functional for the AVR control. I'm pleased with the purchase. Hope this remote unit will last longer than the OEM unit.Edited with update: I removed one star because the TV Control portion of the remote did not work. I inputted in the correct code (which worked on the previous code), but it did not turn the TV on or off. It appears that it did not either go into the program mode when the Receiver and the #1 buttons were pressed for 4 seconds, or the input button on the TV Control portion of the remote did not work. It is not a showstopper, but it would have been nice to eliminate one remote control unit on the coffee table.

The button layout is exactly the same as the original and it works right out of the box after putting batteries in.
