OK, this is not a review of the product performance but a review of just getting one that worked to try out in the first place. I'll leave feedback later about it's performance and capabilities. I first saw this product demoed at an industry event. I was impressed and wanted to get it in my hands to give it a go. My first unit would not start properly. It would start in the calibration mode but I couldn't calibrate it. It seemed to lock up and I had to take the battery out just to turn it off. I returned the unit to Amazon, I have absolutely no issues with the return process, and they promptly dispatched a new unit. I opened the package, put in the battery and went to take the stylus out to calibrate the unit and the stylus was missing. So much for quality control. I just received my third unit and it came on and calibrated first time without issue. I tested a few cables and it seems to work as advertised. I wanted to post a complaint or review or something on the manufacturer website but there's no way to do that, very disappointing. As I said, I'll post a review later about it's performance.

I really regret purchasing this. I had check reviews like a mad man before purchasing it but it did not prepare me for what I found out.The ethernet port on the top does not have a way for the ethernet cable to click in. Causing test fails that we caused because the cable wasn't in right.Length of cable measurement. If I have a cable with 160ft and two lines are 130ft I have a broken wire inside right? A $40 cable tester will test good and testing gigabit with a laptop works.Tone Tracing. Even with good batteries (used a battery life tester) and the don't sleep setting enable it will go to sleep 1 of 8 times. Sometimes (very few times) the tone is barely audible and the cheap lowes toner is louder.If there is POE on the line the tone test will not work. It says test aborted, more than 5v detected. So I cannot find which cable it goes to. But if I plug in the cheap (and I mean cheaply made and poor quality) lowes toner I can find my wire.I do like the kit that I purchased with this but it is not worth more than the $79 Klein Scout. In fact the scout has more value because it is lighter and smaller.I purchased this to match the "1500 mhz proprietary tone" that will work with the Greenlee tracer and eliminate background noise. 1. it will not trace because voltage is connected. 2. the "proprietary tone" is on the Klein Scout and the cheap lowes toner.

For the price tag on the NC-500 you would expect it to do more. I nearly 250 dollars it performs the same functions as similar products that cost half as much. the touch screen is nice but the functionality is low. Don't get me wrong. It does what I need it to do, but so would a similar product that costs 100 dollars less, and for around a hundred dollars more I could have gotten something more impressive. None the less it's fun to show it off at work as the touch screen is a nice feature.

I have used Fluke gear in the past when my employer was paying the bill and I simply selected what was the best, most versatile product (largely) regardless of price. Now that I pay the bills for my own company I decided to try what I felt was a lesser product. I can't say anything bad about this device. Very useful tool to install and test cable. I would recommend to anyone on a budget.

Works well, though it seems to reset on its own often, you're supposed to press and hold the button for 5 seconds to reset, but it seems like it takes less time than that to initiate the reset.

This tester not only verifies a proper wiring configuration, it gives you the cable length as well. Its a great tester for the investment! I have been using one of these for over 10 years now so it is also durable. It also tests coax, single pair, and can provide a 4-pair tone for your seeker to find the other end.

Excellent product. This NETcat has paid for itself and I now wouldn't go on the job without it. Every time I use it our customers are impressed with this machine and what it can do. Best electronic purchase of the year for me and I buy a lot.
