They are alright but not great
So for the price of these they sound great but here is what I have seen over the past.If you don't use them for about a month sometimes they don't work anymore. (Lexmark told me I need to print something at least once every week or two) which I kinda think is crap. While I understand why, I came from an old school HP Inkjet and I tell you what. I could go 6 months without printing and when I needed to print that bad boy still printed great. These, wait a month and you get nothing to print.I have also had to have 2 printers swapped by lexmark for failure. While the warranty service they provide is great I noticed once you move the ink from one printer to another it fails almost right away. Lexmark has you do this but after the first time they sent me replacement inks and heads, which was great but same happened on the second swap. (thus why this purchase) as I don't want to look like I am abusing it so I am just buying my own now.Anyway for the price they are okay but the ink quality is poor also. Water based which means it smudges very easy. Also not good for photos. I wish they would offer photo or better ink for when we did want to print something good. For general paper printing though I guess you can't go wrong at $5 if they actually last.So far have used 3 of these and have yet to get to use an entire one of ink before it stops printing or fails. Everyone seems to die about halfway through. (or so thats what the level shows at).

But Does She Live Up to the Claims?
The price claim (penny per page) works -- if your pages are somewhat spartan and/or you use the "quick print" mode. Don't expect pages that are jam-packed with text to cost as little. The quality of the ink is as good as it gets; the quality of printing will depend on the inkjet you use. On my Pinnacle, the ink looks great. The ink cartridges are packed in a bit of plastic which is none too intuitive as to how to remove it, but none too difficult if you are persistent.A couple of touchy things about the Lexmark printers, themselves (cleaning cycle uses ink, similar things common to printers of this kind) reduce the amount you can get out of each cartridge, but that is a fault with this kind of printing technology -- the cartridge, itself, delivers solidly.

Review update...my machine will no longer print using 105...have to go back to 100
Update: My printer (S600) will no longer print with that chip, now reads completly empty (message pops up with "Printer will not print until the black ink cartridge is replaced" and it ain't joking!)...Poo, thought I had a good thing going. Did work for a while though! If anyone knows a work around to this please let me know!Going back to 100 for now. :-(Just like everyone in previous reviews say, just swap that chip out and you have ink! You do have to really press it in to get it to click, but for 5.00...heck yeah! It will keep telling you that you have low ink, but it keeps going (so far anyway!)

This bargain may be over for Mac's
Update on replacing the rfid chip: This past weekend both our Mac's started reading the new cartridge as empty rather than low, and that means the printer won't work. Our two PC's still work with the printer but something changed with the Mac - not sure if Apple pushed an update or if Lexmark did. I called Lexmark about the printer not printing and I think they knew exactly what the issue was - they wanted to sell me a $120 "fix" for the problem.

Last Long Time
The Lexmark high yield 105XL Black Cartridge is the highest yield ink that I have seen. I have owned 5 other printers and the ink diminished fast due to my large copy requirements. I just received a new Lexmark Platinum Pro905 Business Class Wireless Multifunction Inkjet Printer with Web-Enabled Touchscreen 4 in 1 printer and printed 333 double-sided copies all in black and the black ink is still going strong.I checked the ink levels and according to the printer the ink is still ¾ full in the black cartridge. Regardless of what the printer shows I also printed over 50 one sided copies as well as the double listed above and the ink has not run out.I am surprised and very happy with the high yeild of this ink it is the BEST that I have seen!

Cheaper Alternative
I bought these as a cheaper alternative to the 100 ink cartridges. Why are they so much less. The ink is the same. You just have to remove the RFID chip from a 100 Cartridge and tape it to the 105 cartridge. It could last a little longer. Lexmark should inform you that you can't refill these cartridges. If you don't print a lot, remove the in, place the cap on it, place it in a ziplock sandwich bag and put it in the refrigerator or it will dry up in your printer.

Works great in place of 100 or 100XL carts
As the previous review mentioned, you can swap this cartridge in place of a much higher priced 100 or 100xl cartridge. I just peeled back the label and cut the plastic piece holding the RF ID down. Then swapped it to the new cartridge and placed some scotch tape on it to hold it down. The only downside is that the printer still thinks it is low on ink, since the ink counter doesn't get reset. The printer still thinks you have the old cartridge in there. Oh well. Just ignore it and keep printing. One other tip, make sure you have it pressed in all the way into the printer. Mine didn't work at first, it looked like it was still out of ink. Then I reseated it firmly and it worked.

lexmark black 105XL
I purchased this black ink for my lexmark 805pro AIO printer. I've seen a couple post that state for the ink to register with the printer the rfid tag from the XL100 cartridge should be taped to the new 105. I for one did not need to do this. As a matter of fact the cartridge that came out of the printer was a XL105, go figure! I have only bought replacement cartridges from brick an mortar stores before this, so I really don't know, maybe the boxes say 100 and the cartridge is a 105? In any case the ink works fine, no problems with the printer and at just under 5 bucks you can not beat the price.

Best ink with low price
Best value that money can buy. Bought a printer specifically that used inexpensive ink. Lasts a long time and savings are huge as a result.
