How to Read Chinese Ceramics (The Metropolitan Museum of Art - How to Read)

Deceptive Title
This is a wonderful discussion of the museum's Chinese ceramics, but is useless in aiding me to better understanding my own Chinese ceramic collection. The title "How To read Chinese Ceramics" really does nothing to assist those trying to understand ceramics not in the museum collection; of no use in reading Chinese ceramics as the title alleges. The title should describe the book as only a guide to the museum's collection

Not what I was looking for, but still a great book to have!
While this isnt exactly what I was looking for (I was looking more for a list of chinese "signatures" that can be found on pottery/ceramics to aid me in determining value (if any) on some items I have or find in the future. That being said, I have no doubt this book will be quite helpful in teaching me the more subtle ways of discerning the age (or authenticity) of chinese ceramics, by looking at the glaze color/thickness, paint strokes etc. And the pictures in this book are absolutely GORGEOUS.. and there are quite a few of them. If you're just looking for a "cheat sheet" of maker's marks like I was, this probably isnt the book for you. However if you want to actually learn more in depth about how they were made and when etc., then absolutely get this book.

Understand Chinese Ceramics The Easy Way
Lots of detail but in an easy-to-read style. Photos are superb. Great value for the price.

Nice book and well presented, but limited to description of selected items.
Excellent photographs and a decent book at a reasonable price, which is a typical curators account of selected items in the museum's collection.

Excellent introduction to Chinese ceramics
I had recently been to a museum with an excellent collection of Chinese ceramics and realised how little I knew about the subject which is why I purchased this book. It represents an excellent introduction to the subject with general background information and then descriptions of a range of ceramics arranged chronologically with excellent photographs of the objects. The book was exactly what I was looking for.
