Witty, exciting and informative
I’ve now read the first 5 books, and can honestly say they get better and better. Nicely drawn characters, genuine wit, and very well plotted make an exciting and engaging read - and some interesting looks at London history and geography.

Mystery series of much insight and huge fun
Black London met police recruit seconded as the second man and apprentice wizard in the met's department of "weird stuff ". Ghouls, ghosties and things that go "ooh! Do that again!" in the night. Includes murders, faces that melt, the undead and other people who won't stay down . And then there's the dusky ladies of the London waters- the river goddesses who rule up to Teddington Lock. Not to mention the chief Superintendent Wizard! So I won't.

Fantasy series but based in our London
Fun series of books with an ongoing cast of characters and underlying story. Great descriptions and imagination using London place names very creatively. There are Tube stations that you’ll never look at in quite the same way.

Fun, easy to read urban fantasy.
The Rivers of London series is a funny, urban fantasy series about magic coppers in London. The books are very easy to read and hard to put down. The sort of book you intend to read for half-hour and then it's five hours later. The humour isn't laugh out loud funny that'll have an entire train carriage staring at you, but it's definitely well written enough to be a light, fun read. The characters are very likeable and well developed. Very interesting world build and magic system too. Not something I've seen in other novels.False Value does let the series down a little, due the author playing with chronological arrangement in the book - for very little pay off.Think the entire series is extremely well plotted too. Things mentioned in earlier books play a pivotal role later on.Can be a little woke in a forceful way that is getting a little tired and trite. Everything tends to do it in the same way, and is becoming a big cliche. But it's only on a small scale and isn't a distraction from the plot.Be warned there are shorter stories and comics between the books, that do get referenced. So if you are a completionist, you might want to get everything. But overall an interesting series that is well worth the read. Surprised the Beeb haven't adapted it yet.
