Unique Video Overlay / Audio Mixing System
ClonerAlliance has made a unique device here with its video overlay / audio mixing system (ClonerAlliance Flint D4P, Standalone Dual-4K Video Overlay Device and Audio Mixing. 1080p@60fps Video Game Capture. Remote Control, UVC and Type-C.). It's a pretty niche product, but one that has many great features. The hardware is sturdy and well-built. I appreciate that it's a truly plug-n-play setup - easy to get going with right out of the box (just make sure you've got some batteries on hand for the remote control, as they're not included). The hardware here works with a wide variety of 3rd party livestream software, like OBS, XSplit, OBS, Wirecast, VLC, QuickTime. Given that it doesn't require any external power, the system is neater and easier to get started with - all these nice features add up.

Works But With Some Quirks
This is a really neat capture device for recording, streaming and broadcasting video. It is also ideal for gaming because it has ultra low latency and allows real time display. It is very responsive so you don’t have to wait for it to switch between screens and there is no flickering. It allows you to capture dual 4K images with multiple PIP display modes, stream them to Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, ZOOM, Skype, etc. You can easily record and stream HDMI videos from game consoles, movie players, set-top boxes, DSLR’s and webcams to Mac, Windows, Linux or Android. It also works with many third party live-streaming software (XSplit, OBS, VLC, Wirecast, QuickTime, etc.). It features a good variety of ports too: dual 4K HDMI inputs, HDMI out, line in, line out, external audio input and USB Type C. One thing worth noting is that it will only input 60fps on one of the two ports. It can support up to two separate 4k displays, multiple audio feeds and even has a dedicated microphone/external audio jack. The line in and external audio input integration enables you to add your own voice into the gameplay in time, mix line audio and mic audio to gaming and also remove the original audio from a video and add in your own.It is plug and play so no driver or external power supply is needed for it to work. It pulls power from your computer or other connected devices. To stream, you just have to connect it to your display and plug it into your PC. You don’t have to install any sort of software and it can be used right away. The included remote allows you to switch between display modes (picture-in-picture, side-by-side), adjust the microphone volume, and much more.It comes with video capture and editing programs HDML-Cloner Pro Helper and MP4-Cloner. With the HDML-Cloner Pro Helper you can schedule recordings, record HDMI video, customize the overlay mode and video image and much more. The MP4-Cloner allows you to combine, trim, convert and burn your videos. You can cut one MP4 video and save wanted sections or even split it into several smaller files. You can also combine multiple split videos into one large file.I have a few issues with this device. First being that it doesn’t have any physical buttons on the unit and can only be controlled through the included remote. Without the remote it is essentially useless so make sure not to lose it! The second issue I have is despite it being able to input from 4K sources it can only output 1080p 60fps max. It also doesn't support HDR which is a shame and could be a big issue for some.

Not a smooth user experience
This review is based on my actual use of this product having had experience with video editing, streaming, and gaming for the last decade. The Flint D4P includes most of what you need to get started, but you will need to download software (if you aren't already using one that handles UVC input) and 2 x AAA batteries.Setting up this device was not easy as it would not display video to my TV unless I had it connected to my PC first. Since ClonerAlliance says this requires "no external power", I'm at a loss to explain this, but I tried for an hour on multiple input and output sources without luck. It only worked once I connected it to a PC or Android phone (via a USB-c OTG adapter), so I have to assume it actually does need power. ClonerAlliance does have some tech support documents on their website, but this also assumes that I can turn the unit on when plugged in as a passthrough device, and it does not turn on.Once it was connected, it seemed to work just fine. BUT, you have to realize that despite all the 4k marketing, mentions, and markings on the package of this product it WILL NOT output in 4k - only 1080p 60fps max. It WILL input from 4k sources, but that doesn't make it a 4k device in my opinion. It also doesn't appear to support HDR. I should also point out that it will only input 60fps on one of the ports, not both. You can also connect external audio or a mic into the front of the unit.Setting this up in OBS is straight forward, assuming you know how to use OBS. ClonerAlliance does have their own software, which is a great alternative. Their Android app, unfortunately, didn't connect at all - I had to use a third-party app to get it recording on my Android phone (and it did work well with that third-party app). From the very low star rating in the Google Play Store, I'm not surprised that it didn't work. The remote, while nice, is really the only way to control this unit. It's a shame because even the most basic controls on the device itself would have been appreciated. The remote does allow for all kinds of configurations from split-screen vertical and horizontal to picture in picture. While in picture-in-picture mode, you can change the size and location (corners) of the second screen.Latency isn't really an issue and the device changes between modes in a quick and responsive way (no flickering). While the advertised features of this device seem to work, the execution is where it falters. I don't know if it's supposed to be able to work without a PC (as a 2 in, 1 out pass-through device), but the instructions suggest that it does although it doesn't seem to work that way.

Does not work as advertised, poor and limited customer support.
The Frint D4P appears to suggest it works in 4K, but it is actually 1080p. Customer support is limited and at odd hours. Very disappointed with this product.

In trying to make things simple, they made them more complicated
I don't know who this is intended for. It just seems like a strange product. One of the barriers to game streaming is the setup of all your hardware and software. I believe this product intends to give customers an end to end solution for their stream. However, it just doesn't. The quality is good enough for streaming to Twitch and maxes out at 1080p60 which is all the platform supports anyways. Being able to connect your console to your TV at 4k and then streaming video through your computer at 1080p to Twitch or YouTube is about the only use I can see for this. But that setup would just have this working as a capture card. And if that is all you are using it for there are other less expensive options. It is a pretty good capture card, just expensive if that is all you are using it as.The more advanced options like overlaying video from two sources just seem pointless for a product like this. Anyone who will be invested enough in streaming to justify purchasing a mirrorless camera for video recording will want something more advanced than this. For anyone looking to stream games they are playing on their computer, they would be using a screen, game, or window capture in whatever broadcasting software they choose. The idea of an end to end streaming product is nice, but this falls well short of that. You would be much better off purchasing a regular USB capture card for half the price.
