Helped our minivan grow with our growing family
Our family includes three young children and another on the way. When that's combined with multiple long trips throughout the year, packing our minivan has become something of an art form. Especially when we bring bikes, bike trailers and other such outdoor-adventure goodness, as we did on a recent beach vacation.Anticipating a lack of space for said vacation, I researched (at length) and then purchased one of these Rightline Gear car top carriers. (The Sport 2 fit perfectly on our 2007 Kia Sedona.) This was THE perfect product for our needs and is thoughtfully designed.Pros:* Very easy to install and remove - which we did many times on our trip. I tested out attaching it once before our trip just to be safe, but it's really very simple. Friction does just about all the work.* Remarkably compact when folded & rolled up for storage in the included sack. (The sack itself contains the instructions, which was a brilliant move - won't lose them that way! And they appear to be water-resistant too.)* Lots of space! There's no way we could have fit everything we needed inside our minivan, so this carrier saved the day. And because this is a soft-shell model, we were able to fit in oddly-shaped items while still being able to close it just fine.* Completely waterproof - we were caught in several downpours on our trip but everything inside was totally dry when we arrived.* The carrier feels very durable. I think this will last us a long time.* When packed well there is little-to-no wind noise. And even when I didn't pack so well, the noise was minimal.* It's really nice-looking. A number of people commented on it and asked where they could get one.* Excellent customer service (see the first con below.)Cons:* On the third or fourth time we opened it up, the velcro on the back of the carrier tore off. It didn't seem to damage the carrier itself, nor is the velcro necessary for remaining waterproof. (The final rainy leg of the journey proved this.) Still, I contacted Rightline Gear afterwards and they were quick to send me a replacement carrier.* This really isn't the carrier's fault, but you can't [practically] load the carrier BEFORE putting it on your car. That's important because if it's raining WHEN you need to load up, there's nothing to be done to keep your things totally dry. (This happened to us at one point.) I don't think much could be done about this problem though, so I only mention it here as an FYI.Pro tip: Don't try climbing up and down on your car to load this thing yourself. Get a friend to hand you stuff and your life will be much easier. Especially if the car is wet!So stop reading reviews and just buy the thing. You'll be glad you did.

Easy to use, worked perfectly!
My son decided to move from Florida back to Ohio. He really didn’t have a lot of things so renting a trailer really would have been overkill. After much thought I decided on this rooftop bag as the best option. The bag’s description provided a very accurate size so we knew exactly how much room we had to work with and what sized boxes he could use to fit in it. The material the bag is made from was much thicker than I expected which was a nice surprise. It had the same feel as a rubber inflatable raft, thick and durable. I also liked the way the zippers “self-sealed” themselves as you closed them, it gave me a real sense of security from the elements. Very nice! We had a rooftop rack on my SUV so we didn’t need to use the door clips provided and strapped it right to the rack. It was easy to load and easy to install on the car. The trip from Florida took 2 days of driving about 8 hours each day. When we got to the hotel for the night we just pulled the bag down from the roof completely packed, folded down the seats in the SUV, and threw it in the back. The next morning pulled it back out and replaced it on the roof and off we went, took about ten minutes. We hit a lot of rain the first day and spotted on/off rain the second day. I wondered how the bag was doing during the rain and was pleased to see when we got home that it worked flawlessly. Everything was in cardboard boxes in the bag and it was easy to see that everything stayed nice and dry. The only thing I noticed was the sides were a bit loose when I packed it so the sides flapped in the wind when on the road at highway speed; so I’d suggest using a strap around the sides to bring that noise down to a minimum. I’m completely happy with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking for a rooftop bag for themselves. Just know your dimensions before you pack, figure it out before hand and it couldn’t be easier.

Good quality, held up nicely under pouring rain and on the highway at 100km/h
Bought this for my family camping trip this year as the trunk space was not enough to fit all the camping gear. This was a more economical option to a hard top carrier as I would only use it a few times per year.Pro- good price compared to a hard top carrier- it folds well and comes in a small box. Good for storage and doesn't take up a lot of space- good quality and the material feel durable- used it in the rain. Was skeptical at first with its waterproof ability so I place a tarp inside the carrier and also put my sleeping bags/tents in plastic bags. However, it stand quick well against the rain as the inside was completely dry. The water didn't get in through the zippers either.- I used the straps that came with the carrier to tie it to the roof rack rail on my SUV. The straps were quite strong and had no problem holding the carrier down even driving at 100km/h on the highway.Con - nothing really. The zipper can get a bit tricky to close around the corner.I highly recommend this carrier. I did use it with a anti-slip layer under it to prevent it from sliding on by cars roof.

If you're looking for a roof top bag - this is the one.
Ordered this for a cross Canada move in the winter. It arrived promptly and as described, and also like it was described - easy for one person to set up. The material is heavy-duty, seams are taped, zippers are sturdy, d-rings are sewn well and reinforced then sealed. The straps of sufficient quality, but perhaps a little on the small side length wise for an SUV, and the zipper pulls are a little flimsy but minor points that don't really change the quality of the bag. I also bought the non slip pad and I (at a 130lbs) can hang off the straps on one side and nothing moves once it's all strapped down. The thing is LOADED with bulky awkward kit but seems to be holding up. Really happy with the purchase and to be honest was a bit of life saver - I really needed room in my vehicle for other stuff and this greatly increased the load carrying capacity of my car. I like that it is well made and I won't have to worry about it coming apart. Not great for your gas mileage but having anything strapped to your car would greatly effect your car's efficiency but well worth a few extra bucks in gas if all my crap makes it to my destination, dry and in one piece! I almost wish I got a bigger bag!
