This product saved my son's life.We installed this last December (2010). Today was the first time it was tested. A solid hit to the upper back of his head right on the corner of the hearth. He ended up with a small cut / bruise. The guard stayed in place just as intended. No clear source for the cut, but may just be a split rather than a cut. It was one of those falls that turns you're stomach inside out. We are lucky/blessed he did not receive severe head trauma from the fall. < He got to excited carving pumpkins and fell from his chair. He's almost 4 and still using his Kaboost Portable Chair Booster, Chocolate seat lift. 'The Kaboost is great by the way.' LOL Probably the worst time ever to recommend a product. "Love it even though he fell off it and nearly ended up with severe head trauma" He now has a new location at the table. (no matter why he is at the table)The hearth is marble tile. (Professionally installed over brick)The foam is adhered with the supplied adhesive.Pro's1. Nice and thick. 2. Sticks well to smooth surface. 3. easy to install. 4. We purchased this to place around our brick hearth, in advance of our child learning to crawl. This product has not been tested by our infant yet, but it's probably safe to say that he will be able to pull this loose. That said, my take on this product is that it is meant to cushion the edges of the hearth in the event he were to fall towards the hearth. I don't think this product was intended to be repeatedly pulled at or played with by infants, so I was a bit surprised to see so many reviewers complain that their children could easily pull this loose. Of course they can pull it loose! It's foam adhered to an extremely porous surface with some double-sided adhesive! My question is why are these folks letting their children play with the material that was installed specifically to protect their children from an area that was dangerous enough to begin with that it required said padding to be installed?? THIS PRODUCT SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED AN ALTERNATIVE TO GOOD PARENTING THAT WOULD TEACH YOUR CHILD THAT CERTAIN THINGS ARE OFF LIMITS.As for the product installation, it was easy enough. I found it helpful to place each adhesive/velcro strip so that it would make contact only with the brick itself, and avoided placing where it would have to adhere to the mortar, since the mortar on our fireplace hearth is slightly indented and thus below the level of the brick, where the strips could more easily make and maintain contact. After letting set for 12 hours, I did attempt to remove the padding to see if the bottom velcro strips would remain adhered to the brick. It didn't. Again, this is not a huge issue, because I'm not really sure why we would want to temporarily remove the padding, leaving behind 2 dozen little velco strips on the hearth. All in all, I'm pleased with the appearance and installation of the product.

I have 3 granddaughters age one and under. Usually have to "hide" the stone hearth with pillows. And because the hearth is stone, it's uneven in places, but this was easy to install and fits great. I cut the corner pieces and used them to fit the angles at each side using a sharp kitchen knife. The tape seems super sticky, but time will tell. Had a heck of a time getting the film in the tape started to remove it; pair of tweezers finally did the trick. The cushion is thick and soft. You can't feel the stone edges at all when I press down. And the taupe color matches my whitewashed stone perfectly. Love this product.

Overall, fairly easy to install, length wise it fit almost exactly to our hearth, feels thick enough to protect our baby from the edge.Biggest con is the tape is not pre-applied to the border. We also found it doesn't stick super well.

We have 2 fireplaces and I'm very glad we put this around our brick hearth on both. It has kept my toddler from splitting his head over several times. It's very easy to attach to the brick, fits very well. It looks nice around the brick. It comes with double-sided tape and so far it has stayed on the brick. It seems very durable. We have not had a fire going yet so I can't speak to how it holds up to embers. But for protecting little heads and faces it is great.

Got this product for it to come and not have the double sided adhesive it said would be included.

I honestly had no idea what I was going to get when I ordered this product because there were pictures of 3 different pads. Overall, I got what I needed- this padding covers sharp edge of my hearth so my kid doesn’t crack her head open. I didn’t get enough material to go all the way around and cover all the edges but the furniture blocks the rest so I’m satisfied. It was an easy set up and the tape adheres relatively well- my daughter has already tried pulling it off and the bummer still stands. Good product, worth what I paid for.

A must item around the house to protect your toddlers. We use them everywhere even with furniture. Clean the surfaces with paper towel dipped in isopropyl alcohol before putting the velcro. That is the proper way to apply them.

My package came with blue single sided duct tape. It isn't double sided or velcro. There is no way to attach the pad to the hearth!

Great quality foam that is soft and absorbent. Adhesive worked great for mounting to smooth tiled hearth. Look for another solution if you have a brick hearth.
