Queen of Tejano Music: Selena

I love this long overdue picture book biography of Selena Quintanilla. She is a great role model for Latinas and all little girls who have stars in their eyes and want to be singers. Sylvia Lopez' well-researched text gives a road map of sacrifice and compromise for this small-town Texan girl, but also shows how Selena insisted on her own style and her own...well, joy along the way. The journey is perfectly complemented by Paola Escobar's bright, bold illustrations, including one of the most stunning children's book covers of the season with the rose-cascaded hair. Great book for any little Latina singer, or any little girl singer, or any little girl with dreams...or anyone at all with dreams.

As a child, I idolized Selena Quintanilla. I loved her and her music. And so I came to Silvia López’s picture book biography of Selena Quintanilla, stunningly illustrated by Paola Escobar, with eagerness. It did not disappoint! As a biography, it provides a thorough narrative of who Selena was and the impact she had. Each spread has gorgeous illustrations that depict the scenes of Selena’s childhood and rise to fame—and of her family. This truly is a work of art.

Absolutely amazing artwork! I have a million books on Selena and this one takes my breath away! Worth every penny! I highly recommend this to any Selena fan!

Bought for my daughter its fine print lettering kind of an informative book, so my 4 y.o. wasn't to intrigued. Will wait until she is older to read it to her. Overall ok product.

More perfect than I could have asked for.I ordered and this got to me super quick.The pictures add such a unique and “real ness” the story of Selena. Love this book and saving it to show my kids when they can understand and pass it down.

Such a beautiful, lovely, thoughtful, sensitive, tasteful book!I adore Selena - as a singer, performer, woman, Latina, and icon. I couldn't not buy this book.First, the illustrations; stunning. Incredible. They capture Selena and her beauty so well. Such a unique and original art style, I love every single picture in this book. I can't stop looking. They literally jump off the page. I can't put into words how much I love the illustrations in this bookSecondly, the writing. Although this is a children's book, it isn't condescending - it doesn't dumb things down. It puts Selena's life into a context that younger readers will understand. And I, as an adult, had a blast reading it. Every word is chosen so carefully and beautifully. So tastefully done, portraying each struggle and Selena's death with dignity and realism. This book taught me things not even I knew about Selena and her life. Her story is inspiring and this book really puts that across, showing that no matter who you are and where you come from, no matter what people tell you - you can achieve your dreams, just like Selena.
