Steven A. NashWayne Thiebaud: A Paintings Retrospective

I've loved Wayne Thiebaud ever since I was a kid, leafing through my dad's art books - and now that I bake so much I have an even deeper fondness for the crisp cake and pastry paintings. This book covers a wide range of Thiebaud's work, from food to portraits to landscapes (especially my favorites, the vertigo-inspiring San Francisco hills!), and all are reproduced in beautiful crisp prints. The book is big enough to give you clear images but not so big that it won't fit on a bookshelf.The narrative throughout is also well written, if you can ever bring yourself to read rather than just dreamily flipping through the images.If you're a Thiebaud fan, I suggest you get this book, I doubt you'll be disappointed!

I loved Wayne paintings since I discovered them on an Instagram post. I was expecting a lot of this book and I liked it, it's a nice introduction to his work, despite I would liked to see more in color paintings and more cakes/still lifes. Great historical reference! However, I will buy the Rizzoli book too.

Wonderful gift for my granddaughter

After I have seen an exhibit of original paintings, this does not capture the genius ....ho hum

The book summarized the work of this important -- and still very active -- American artist. The book has a good set of reproductions that help illuminate his body of work. The introduction by Gopnik is excellent and worth reading in its own right.

I had ordered this book to share it with my adult painting students in a class I teach. It was to inspire a lesson about painting pictures of pastries. What I found was so much more. The book provides an informative overview of a variety of types of work by this artist, both realist and pop artist, with fine quality reproductions of the art work.

This is a really nice book about Wayne Thiebaud. It has a lot of good, color illustrations of his work from the Pop Art to the recent works. It has a very informative well written text too.

grew up a few blocks from this world famous pop artist, I love collecting his books. as an artist I think its a fantastic book! next time I see him at the grocery store maybe i'll get an autograph! ;)

I've had this well-presented hardback monograph in my library for a number of years; at the time I purchased it there were only a few books on Thiebaud available.This contains 120 full-colour illustrations of the artist's works, all well-reproduced and of good size with a useful biographical profile and chronology.Thiebaud may have become noticed for his cake and consumerist images, but he is a fine painter of figures, portraits and urban landscapes as well, notable for his bold and distinctive use of colour (the coloured halations he creates around the edges of objects is a particular trait).Although there are now many more books available on the artist, this remains a very recommendable volume – a fine introduction to his work if you are unfamiliar with it and a good reference to have for study and enjoyment.

Great book, full of Thiebaud's paintings with great image quality.A must for everyone who likes the artist and wants to explore his art and discover more of his works.

某美術館で「パイ・カウンター」を鑑賞して以来、画集を捜し求めていました。やっと見つけたこの本。載っている作品数はかなり多いですし妥当なお値段です。生で拝見するのとはやっぱり全然違いますが、それは仕方ない事。星５つにしたかったのですが、私の好きな絵の何点かが、有名なのにも関わらず収められていないのが悔しいので☆ひとつ減らしました。

予定より早い到着でした！嬉しいです。本の角に少しへこみがありましたがそれ以外は全く問題なしです。内容はとっても可愛くてお気に入りです！英文は理解できませんが絵によっては拡大画像も載せてあってマチエルや色使いも分かりやすく見られます。

いろいろ探したのですが、ちゃんとした画集がこれしかないんじゃないのかと思ってしまいました。いや、たぶんちゃんと探せばあるんでしょうが、でもこれさえあれば、網羅してしまったと言っても過言です。しかし、値段といい、作品数といいかなりお得だし良いです。
