a necessity for long focal lengths
If you shoot with lenses 1000mm or longer, you need this. This is especially true if your camera doesn't have IBIS. I shoot moving targets with 2000mm and 3000mm focal lengths. Before I discovered red dots existed for cameras, I found it very difficult to even see the target in my viewer. The field of view at these focal lengths make it very difficult to find a target relying on just the cameras view finder. As a side note, you will have to setup your red dot by focusing on an object near infinity. while looking thru the red dot. confirm you see the object on your LCD. Once you've locked it in, your all set. For me, this was an unexpected gold find. This is truly one of the best product in my bag.

Get on target quickly
Once set up it worked like I thought. Going to have to get use to using it. Elevation and Horizontel adjustments should have a tighter more positive feel. It did help me get on the birds fast when using my 600mm, a lot easier to track with out zooming in and out.

Birds in flight, a real help for long lenses
The EE-1 dot sight really helps when shooting birds in flight or other action with a long lens. The usual problem with long (400mm or longer) lenses is the soda-straw view of the world. How to find the bird? The dot sight gives you a wide field of view and the dot, once aligned on the camera and lens, lets you quickly acquire the subject. You need to use a fairly wide focus area (9 or more pixels) setting for your camera autofocus and it's possible to bump the EE-1 and get it out of alignment, so check the focus performance often. You hold the camera away from your face, looking through the dot sight while shooting which should aid in tracking the subject. The BIF rules still apply: little fast birds are going to be very hard, larger, slower birds are easier.Construction is plastic but reasonably rugged. The EE-1 sticks up above the hot shoe, so the device can snag or be bumped.I do a lot of BIF photography and this device really helps.

Easy to use and makes aiming camera easy
I actually bought this for my Nikon Coolpix p1000 because at full zoom (3000mm, yess that's no typo) it was nearly impossible to find anything but the moon. But this camera can show you the 4 moons of jupiter when zoomed out. NOW I can line up the red dot with the add-on finder and there is Jupiter and its moons. Obviously it would be good for any similar situation. It fits on the hotshoe but draws no power from the camera. Has it's own battery (which is included) Highly recommend this if you use a swing out (from the camera body) viewing panel. So easy.

Works well with almost any camera
After seeing a suggestion from another user of the camera I have (Sony RX10 IV), I bought this and took it with me on vacation. Before leaving, I did calibrate it on a tripod, as reviewers have suggested. I used it on a whale watch, and it worked well for that, allowing me to keep my eye on a broader area while still aiming the camera in the right place. The EE-1 locks firmly into the hotshoe and the crosshairs were visible even in bright conditions. I liked that I could just close it and use the camera's finder directly.

Bright
The media could not be loaded. Easy to see in direct sunlight. Very easy to adjust on the go. Has a very nice look and feel. Securely locks down to the hot shoe.

Decent but not great
Works fine for birds in flight most of the time, but would be unacceptably unreliable for any firearms use. It’s very easy to knock out of alignment but also easy to put back, so you pretty much have to recalibrate it whenever you go out to shoot, but it only takes a minute each time. Reticle is nice and bright and very usable.I included a couple example images. Anyone who tries to track swallows without a telephoto knows that it's quite tricky and this red-dot really helps you catch them. The bald eagle picture is an illustration of one of the problems of shooting like this: if you miss focus on a burst you won't know or be able to adjust until it's too late. It helps a lot to have your autofocus settings and tracking settings dialed in well, also obviously works better against a plain background.Battery life is pretty solid, I've had to replace the battery 3 times since I got it but I use it a lot. Durability feels a bit sketchy, mine has gotten a little sticky to open after using it for this length of time, but not a big deal.Depending on how you carry your camera you might accidentally fold up the sight a lot, or knock it out of alignment, which is something to watch out for. Not hard to fix but definitely a problem given the purpose of this accessory is being able to catch things on short notice.EDIT after several years: the flimsiness is really interfering with functionality, I'm not sure exactly what's wrong but something has gotten loose enough inside that even with a new battery the reticle is not reliably turning on.

Works ok but needs calibration all the time
I got it for use on the Nikon V3. It was ok to help locating the object in the camera frame. However, the calibration is off all the time and without a tripod, it is hard to calibrate. I eventually took it off and just practice eye hand coordination and it works as well.
