This is such a cool book!Theoretical physics is all about gaining tons of different perspectives of the same phenomenon and then isolating that perspective that might unify, or explain more deeply, related phenomena.Padmanabhan is a giant in theoretical physics and is very clever in illuminating interesting perspectives.This book offers 26 different perspectives from a variety of topics. Some of them i had been familiar with but many others completely surprised me.If you have an interest or passion in physics you would do well to obtain and study this book. The casual attitude of the author makes for a fun read!I find myself wanting more. Perhaps the author has plans for another 26 surprising insights!Well done.

Casts interesting fresh light on a wide assortment of topics. Certain to engage the imagination of all who are engaged in the practice or teaching of theoretical physics. Very engagingly written, with many figures and a good bibliography.

Some fascinating and insightful calculations. Great stuff if you love theoretical physics- or even engineering.

Some times the title of a Physics book can be deceptive; theauthor might want the reader to get the feeling that it is possible tofathom the most complicated physical phenomena without calculating.The same can be said about "Sleeping Beauties in Theoretical Physics:26 Surprising Insights" written by Prof. Padmanabhan. Prof. Padmanabhanhas chosen 26 interesting problems that are both classic and topical.Each problem is unfolded in each chapter like "a concise short story".The author expects the reader to explore by filling the missing stepswhich requires one (at least to me) to sit and work out all the steps toappreciate the deep insights. From my experience, reader can completethe entire book with all the calculations in a month. This is indeed greatas the reader will get a wider perspective in Classical Mechanics,Electrodynamics, Gravitation and Quantum Mechanics. You will definitelyenjoy the book with a big notebook and pen with lots of ink!

This book is a remarkable exploration of many aspects of physics. The problems analysed using a variety of novel techniques reveal layers of understanding which will entertain and enchant anyone with an interest in physics and a basic skill set in undergraduate mathematics. The problems in gravitation and electromagnetism are notable in their novelty and simplified insight into their actual structure. The solutions are often counter intuitive ( rainbow as an example) and highly educative even to professional physicists. I strongly recommend this book to anyone with the requisite skills and interest in basic problems and conundrums in the present crop of physical theories that we have.

I like this book a lot. It really shows the beauty of physics. I want to give it 10 stars if i can. The more you know about physics the more amazing you feel about this book.
