Great safe for the money.
So I wanted a fireproof safe that might give at least some degree of protection in a burglary situation. I was originally looking at a First Alert or a Sentry safe, but when I actually saw one, not only is the handle plastic, but the inside was plastic and the door bolts were actually retained in the plastic! After watching a lot of videos about how easy it is to break into a safe, I knew that no safe less than a grand or more was going to be really "safe", but this one being all steel seems much more secure than any of the big name brand ones, and I could only find positive reviews about this brand, even from people who sell big expensive safes. Also the video of them drop testing it was pretty convincing - as I have heard about several other safes that will open if you drop them from a couple of feet. That being said, when I got the safe, it was delivered by UPS and the box was pretty destroyed. The styrofoam packing was disintegrating and cracked, and there was a tiny tiny dent in one corner. Other than the mess the styrofoam made in my yard where I unboxed it, I didn't see any reason to return it and went ahead and got it into my basement. The safe is heavy, and I doubt that anybody would every try to carry it away, but most of the before-mentioned safe cracking videos showed 2 men with large crowbars and sledgehammers clunking away on a safe laying on its back so they have the best angle on it. I figured that bolting it to the floor in a hard to get to space would really improve the security due to lack of accessibility. The safe has 4 holes pre-drilled and they give you 2 5/8" concrete sleeve anchors, however the anchors are about 5 inches long and require you to drill something like 4 inches into the surface of whatever you're mounting it to. Since I don't know how thick my floor is, and I'd rather not have it go through the floor anyway, I decided to buy a box of 2 3/4 anchors so that I'd only have to drill down about 1 1/2 inches. Since I put all 4 in, I don't feel there is any chance of anybody being able to get them out without a seriously long crow bar and a lot of time.PS, the safe comes with 5/8" sleeves, but the threading on the bolts is closer to 1/2", so if you buy extra 5/8" sleeves to get 4, they won't fit through the holes, so I just used 4 1/2'" sleeves. The safe itself is very sturdy and the metal handle is reassuring. The keypad works well and the battery is on the outside so you don't have to worry about it running out and having to use the key. There is a really long funky key, but it is a bit of a procedure if you have to use it which involves some disassembly of the keypad. I consider this an advantage because I've also seen lots of videos on how easy it is to pick the key locks on a safe, this one I don't think suffers from that. The inside is very spacious and completely covered on all sides by felt covered fireproofing material, as is the adjustable shelf. As others have mentioned, some of the steel is very thin. I've only noticed this on the very bottom, I don't know if it is any thicker on the sides and back and front where it is exposed, but in my layman opinion, I would say that it is thicker everywhere by the bottom because assuming you bolt it down, the bottom is not subject to attack.I guess my biggest complaint is that I would have liked to have seen the door bolts extend into the very thick wall of the safe. It instead has a steel lip around the door which is about 1/2" thick. While I assume this will do the job much better than any safe anywhere near this price range, it just seems like going into the side wall would be more secure, but again, I'm a layman and I have no idea how to build a safe...Overall, I feel much better about the security of this safe than anything else in the sub 500 dollar range. I won't be putting the crown jewels into it, but if I had any crown jewels I'd have a vault.

Pessimist
Having not been burgled or the victim of a house fire I can’t really properly review this safe just thought I’d give some extra pictures of things people may want to see but yes I like the looks and space although the safe has 4 bolting holes and only two cement anchors were with it the door has some wiggle when shut it has quite a bit of a gap that is bigger at the bottom of the door than the top (you have to take the door hinge pins out to see how big the top vs bottom gap is) I hope the expanding seal can fill it in the event of a fire. Since having it for a while sometimes when opening it the piece that stops it from opening doesn’t go back into place when the handle goes to the locked position so you have to type the code in again and make sure it is in the locked position before it locks the stopping pin into position. My opinion is that whoever made this it seems like they were in a hurry and didn’t have much care for precision considering it’s importance for what this is and especially at the door seal. Maybe it would be fine I really couldn’t tell you I hope mesa’s quality control guidelines are sufficient (if they have any).

MESA Mesa Safe Company Model MBF1512E Burglary and Fire Safe with Electronic Lock
Safe arrived early and exactly as I ordered. Packaging was very inadequate. Thin cardboard box with Styrofoam did NOT work well. Safe was undamaged although I don't know why as the box was poorly taped, split open on seams and foam pieces hanging out.Safe functions well and will serve its purpose. Instructions on re-setting lock combination are vague and incomplete but you can figure it out by trial and error. I was disappointed that the bolts to secure the safe were for concrete application and the holes in the safe floor must be drilled by the owner. A bit of a pain...but doable. In this "pay and play" era you would think Mesa could do better. All said, I am happy with the safe and pleased with its performance.

I like the safe
I like the safe. it is my second one. But delivery was not done carefully. I think it was dropped. The surface paint was chipped at the corners. But the safe still worked and we kept it.

So far, so good.
Like the title says, so far, so good... Arrived unscathed. Setup was easy. I live in CA, and it arrived the next day with standard shipping. I would highly recommend bolting this in place. It's not light, but it's also not terribly heavy. I carried it by myself from my front porch, through my house to it's destination... And two guys could easily lift and carry it quickly. At this price point (cheap safe) it seems pretty well put together. It was missing two of the clips for the internal shelf, but a quick call to customer service took care of that. Bolt it to the floor, throw an LED light in there and you're in business.

Quality safe. Can’t beat the price.
I must say I’m impressed with the safe thus far. This price is the best out there. I’ve seen the same model for hundreds more sold on other sites. I also went to a local lock and safe store to shop around, and a good safe is NOT cheap. I hesitated to buy this safe from Amazon because of all the bad shipping reviews I read, however I must say it came via FedEx intact with no damage. The inside is carpeted which is a plus. I’m very happy with my purchase.

Good - but difficult to get it working
Had to spend quite a bit of time speaking to someone on the phone to get the safe to start working properly. Now works fine/serves its purpose.

Solid
As others have posted, FedEx did not treat the package very kindly. The two guys who carried it literally tossed in onto my doorstep. The box was destroyed.Pleasant surprise, the styrofoam was 3-4 inches thick in all directions, which kept it perfectly safe.So far, it seems like a solid purchase. I will update once I setup the combo.
