Airfix 1:32nd Scale Ford 3 Litre GT Plastic Model Large Starter Gift Set

My 13 year-old son got this for his 72-year old grandfather so they could build models together. My sons are prolific model builders and grandpa built in his youth but has been adrift since retirement and desperately in need of a hobby. The two of them worked on this car over Christmas break and it is coming along great! They're not done yet, but the next time they get together they are looking forward to finishing. so, its a great project either as an individual or to work with someone who may not have any experience.The kit itself is very good. the parts and body are detailed enough to look good and fit together well. The hornby paints are fantastic--3 coats of the red on the body and the shell looks great--will probably only need 1-2 coats of gloss to finish. I had never built cars because I was intimidated by getting to that factory finish (much easier to do a weathered airplane) but the hornby paints go on so well.So on the negative side, on of the wheel rims came with an extra 3-4 mm ring around it--not sure how that happened.On the positive side, we contacted Airfix and they sent a replacement sprue (with the correct part) within the week. Fantastic customer service.Will definately buy more airfix kits!

Absolutely great build.Couple notes:Some of the instructions had part numbers not completely printed leading to a bit of guess work.Instructions could have been a bit more detailed for the suspension, if it is someones first car build they could easily find the tires not sitting low enough to fix the top and bottoms together properly.

Much too difficult for a 8 yr old. I tried to return it was they would not let you return it.
