Wonderous
We live in terribly troubled times, so a simple story with a happy ending seems improbable in real life. And perhaps it is, but Levy's book -- for some unknown reason -- makes me think perhaps not.

Good for the soul
I am not one to recap the plotlines of a book when leaving a review, I simply share how I feel upon finishing. A Woman Like Her touched my heart. The story is woven together around residents of an upper scale apartment building on 5th Avenue. Their esteemed building has a manually controlled elevator, which necessitates employment of two elevator operators, one for days and the other for nights. Just open up this book for a warm hearted story with a surprise ending. This book is not a fluff piece, it is an excellently spun story touching many serious social issues in today's world.

Enjoyable "escape rreading"
Levy's books are always enoyable with likable characters. There is a moment, a few pages, when Sanji is selling his social media concept to raise money for an american version of a concept that has been very successful in India, that Levy comments at length about very serious matters. The commentary almost seemed uncharacteristic of the rest of the book, but very much appreciated. There is romance and social commentary about racism and social caste systems both in India and in some form, in America.

Different than the run of the mill...
I like Marc Levy. His books aren't in the regular flow. He thinks of plotting that is not only original, but absorbing. The multi-faceted network of human interaction in this book was endearing, and captured my late night reading far better than a lot of the books I've read lately. I had been on a diet of espionage and WWII novels, interspersed with factual accounts, so a nice detour into warmer waters was welcome. The translator of Levy's books does such a terrific job. Sometimes translated books are hard to grasp on some level, but this one was not. I will be reading more Levy. I also loved The Miss Pendelbury - Mr.Daltry one. Fabulously original. Highly recommend Marc Levy. :)

Love arrives on one floor or another
Let's get away from the need to "correct" the views and opinions of fictional characters for readers. You read a light-hearted story because you are weary of not being light-hearted. I found Marc Levy's use of an elevator as impetus to be genius. The characters in this lively tale are ultimately brought together in friendship and love. The ups and downs and final stabilizing of a peculiar elevator mirror the human relationships. As this elevator requires special attention, so with the characters who live in an apartment building and their city life. The backgrounds of the building inhabitants, the visitors, and the honorable elevator operator are intriguing. Different cultural views, political and religious make people interesting. Have an open heart, an open mind, and cozy up to this delightful Marc Levy take on stumbling onto love in unlikely places!

‘A Woman Like Her’ was a beautiful story I needed to read now!
This book has a beautiful romance, without intimacy that we’re usually used to reading. The biggest thing I loved about it was basically what America is going through right now..racism due to the color of your skin! What was wonderful about it, was the family & the one woman who felt she couldn’t exist by a certain accident she had..and when her ‘admirer’ came into her life, he told her ‘you’re beautiful for who you are, not for what you’re missing’.It showed her that if this man won’t allow things to come into his life due to racism, then her tragedy shouldn’t keep her from trying!!I recommend it for everyone to read & think that: We are all Human and can be hard working individuals if we want to be, as long as hatred isn’t put front & center! When others finally realize that, our lives change for the best!5 Stars!!

Couldn’t put it down
Couldn’t put this down - as in 3a.m. finish!Thought provoking for what it said and for what it left between the lines for the reader to fill in for herself.Whilst it celebrates the everyday heroism and compassion displayed by ordinary people it doesn’t neglect the selfishness of other ordinary folk. I loved the glimpse of different cultures . How lovely to respect your elderly (unknown before) relatives !Yes it glosses and romanticises but how much I wanted to believe in it!Hope for triumph over adversity ❤️

A gentle tale of the ups and downs of love
Gentle. Genteel. An old fashioned story of love and elevators. Told with Levy's trademark care of plot, characters and setting each lovingly recreated. This won't win any prizes or change writing in any significant way, but of itself it is rather lovely. Only one strange translation moment... The elevator sign reading "en panne". Has Deepak suddenly become bilingual?

Fascinating exposition of different cultures and our view of each other
Lots of games playing by author, as you would expect but he explores all sorts of things , not least the overwhelming power of the rich, the questionable benefits of progress, the dehumanising trends n modern life and what social media might be like. Good fun and thoughtful

lovely book
It is a gentle story of disability and love. I found myself reading with an Indian accent! The author has captured the Indian humour so well, and I did love the antics! A really lovely book, highly recommend.

An unusual story...
An interesting book with an unusual story that I enjoyed reading. I felt it got a bit tangled up at times in the goings on of the residents and the other main characters but it all seemed to work out in the end.
