The book is very informative, very detailed and great to just have around your house just incase. It was shipped very quick! Very pleased!

This is one of those precious books--something special for those of us who get a kick out of the little things in life. I bought it because I wanted to build a little bridge, but then read it all the way through, just because it was so fascinating.We have all seen most of these daily-life structures, but little appreciated their sophistication or "structure for function" engineering.I grew up in farm country, so maybe I'm just being nostalgic about it all, but I will keep this book on my shelf along with all my other construction books. Not the least because it's practical: good designs are always good, no matter how old or traditional.

surprisingly interesting

Wanted ideas for some possible vintage/natural fencing for our land. Definitely not helpful. Not even remotely interesting for a casual read on old time fencing ideas. Save your money.

This is a "can't stop in 1 setting book". It reinvents my boring designs of fences in my property that I am thinking of changing. Now I have fresh vision. And it also reflects on the early American settlement that was all about using the resources of wood diversity present everywhere.

I wanted a book that illustrates rustic fencing ideas and this one does.

This is an interesting book for those interested in a nostalgic overview on gates and fence building, much like the title suggests, but if you're looking for a step-by-step guide to fence construction, this is not it.

Old time charm but I think there’s still some valuable ideas here for around the farm, ranch or home.

Does and Don'ts of Yesteryear: A Treasury of Early American Folk Wisdom and Old-Time Gates and How to Build Them. Two fantastic books by Eric Sloane. I have others of his and plan on purchasing more. The illustrations are terrific as well. Super stuff..
