Locke & Key: Keyhouse Compendium

From a new fan of the series, this is a great tome
I was previously unaware of the Locke & Key series until I watched the tv version on Netflix. I had a good time with the show and while waiting for a second season, I wanted to check out the source material. This version of it just came out a month ago, and its a very impressive collection. All six volumes of Locke & Key are contained within along with a few little extras (diaries of known keys and some alternate covers, these may have been with other collections of Locke & Key, too, not sure) at the end.The Good: The artwork and colors are fantastic. The imagery is very detailed and really makes use of the large pages which are about the size of regular notebook/printer paper (bigger than I'm used to for comics). As for the story, itself, it's very good. The tv series has already taken extensive liberties (i.e. made a lot of changes) with the source material, mostly in a bad way unfortunately. The original story here is much darker (there are also some fairly gory parts in the book), has less obnoxious 'teen drama', and is a suspenseful exciting tale. It's worth the read just for the story, but the outstanding visuals really push it over the top.The Bad: This book is BIG. Really big. As mentioned above, the pages are close to the size of note/printer paper and there are almost 1000 of them which makes it difficult to actually read it without pulling pages away from the binding. You will also likely want some sort of support (a well-cushioned reading pillow would help) as it weighs several pounds making it heavy to hold for any amount of time. The Bottomline: If you are a long time fan of Locke & Key, you may really appreciate this all-in-one compendium. If you are new to it, like me, you will find this collection great, but may honestly be better suited to looking into the smaller size previous collections (which can be quite a bit cheaper and easier to handle as they are broken into multiple books) if you only want to know the story of Locke & Key. This volume is almost better suited to a coffee table book given its size and weight, but with the great artwork and stories inside, you don't spend this much to just sit it on a table. I am personally very happy with the purchase of this version as the positive qualities are far greater than the negatives (which are really just physical things that won't bother some persons). If you want a very impressive-looking tome of Locke & Key than this is for you, just realize it may not be as easy to handle/read as other versions.

Amazing story, flimsy binding
Delivered with Inside cover cracked vertically up the center.Doesn't seem to have affected any pages with art, but for the price wish the binding was a bit stronger.

Addictive and impossible to put down
This is a very dark and over the top series so it might not be suitable for a lot of people. That being said, I was intrigued from begin to end. The graphics are great, story is on point, and the binding of the omnibus is prob the best any that I own. Definitely check this one out!

Quite good
On the whole, it is the whole main series plus extra covers and some information on the known keys. I would have loved it if included some of the miniseries, but nothing to do. Still, quite good!

BUY the Master Edition Volumes instead
There are 3 master edition volumes. SOLID editions. And all three can be purchased for less than this all-inclusive edition.Look them up because THAT is the superior release of Locke & Key, and will hold up MUCH better over time.

Amazing Story!!
Hands down one of my favorite stories of all time. Joe Hill did an amazing job with this one. This collection is a perfect way to collection the main series in full for a cheap and affordable price. The story sucks you in, runs through all the emotions and then leaves you begging for more. Definitely a very dark book in parts, but at the end of it the light prevails and you’re left with a sense of completion. I’ve read through this series a few times and it holds up each time. As for the quality of the product itself, I’d give it a 4 out of 5. Binding is solid, the pages look and feel crisp, overall a solid product. I don’t give it 5 stars just because I feel the dust jacket could have been protected a little better than it was with a slip case or something of the sort. Aside from that it’s a solid product worth the money.

10/10
Beautiful!! Perfect condition apart from some slight border scuffing but it is to be expected with something so big and heavy! This feels so incredibly sturdy and exceptional quality. Probably the highest quality book I own

Excellent!
Bought this out of the blue and couldn't be happier. This is one of the best graphic novel runs I've read. The characters, keys, locations are all interesting. The writer does a great job following through with all the subtle hints throughout the story into a satisfying conclusion. The binding was ever so slightly separated on the bottom, but it's nothing a little glue can't fix.If you're sitting on the fence, grab this compendium. The show is absolutely terrible in comparison.Cannot recommend enough!

Joe Hill is a Genius
What did I like? Everything. I bought the first trade paperback on a whim. It sat around for almost a year before I picked it up. I only did so because I thought. Why did I buy this, let me at least read it and see what's up. Well I was hooked. I ordered the rest immediately. I had to know what happened. It was so magical and amazing and raw and I was completely sucked in. If you've seen the nexlix show. This is 100 times better than that. It's just amazing. I gave all my TP to my best friend as I felt everybody needs to experience this masterpiece. And so I bought myself this wonderous hunk of book. The pages are much larger than the paperbacks so you have so much more to appreciate. 60 pounds for this book is a steal. It's definitely worth 100. If you're a fan of fantasy/horror this book is perfect. I literally didn't want it to end. But the ending was good. It wasn't as if it didn't make sense. I just wanted it to go on forever. This book is magic and I can't recommend it enough.

Brilliant series in a fantastic format
First discovered this series on a Top 100 list and have loved it ever since (it’s probably tied for me with Preacher as my favourite self-contained series). Bought this compendium to upgrade my tpbs and it is wonderfully done and very robust (but not too heavy to read). Naturally, I reread the whole thing within days of receiving it. If you’ve not read Locke & Key, buy the first tpb now!!! If you have (or if you just know you’ll love it and don’t mind taking the chance on a big book) you owe it to yourself to get this.
