It's my favorite thing
I want one of each version. Beautiful quality, and though I play with it way more often than I use it as a remote, it works well. I will absolutely be getting Ten's after finding out how lovely and fun this one is. The flick action is sensitive, and took a bit to get it to master how to make it only go when I want it to, and because I can't be bothered to read instructions, getting it to make more than the one sound took some fiddling. I did read them to understand how to program it initially since I'd never have figured that out, but it was easy in the end and I was able to program it to work with a few devices. I love it! The weight, the look, the quality. I'm well pleased. Worth every penny

Dr Who remote - big thumbs up :-)
I'm not an expert on prop-replicas, in fact apart from a sonic toy torch it's the only one I own ;-). However the quality appears to be very good, solid construction and feels good in the hand. So as a prop I can't imagine anyone wanting anymore as it appears to behave just like the original 11th Doctors sonic on tv :-). As a remote, yes well it definitely works on my two TVs, but not my media player (at least not that I was able to get it to work...and admittedly that item wasn't mentioned as an example in the instructions). Programming the remote functions while a little bit tricky, but not too much of a hassle once you get the hang of it. I mostly have mine on display as use it as a remote when I wish to have a play round with it :-). If you are a Dr Who ran this is fantastic, but if you are looking for a good universal remote workhorse I'm thinking there are probably better options out there. I am very happy with my purchase and have no real complaints considering this is a remote that has only one button and can do SO much :-)

Metal sonic screwdriver with added benefits to control your telly.
Right off the bat, I have purchased three of the toy screwdrivers since Matt Smith (11th* Doctor)started his tenure. I've know about the Wand Company's version for a while, just thought it was a universal remote for the longest time. Then I discovered they have "FX Mode"I snapped this one up almost immediately after that, and after thirty minutes of "play" I have it programmed to my TV, it's that easy.As for the build, it's true metal throughout. The claws and knurled arms are what appear to be an aged or galvanized steel, though I'm sure it's just stainless. And the copper bits appear to be a coated tin. It does feel top heavy as a result, but when you put the batteries in (2 AAA) it evens out.As for FX mode (70% the reason I got it) it advertises different sounds with different gestures. Though I cannot seem to get them to make the other noises outside of holding the button.I'm sure I'll get the hang of it, though, and it's not enough to bring down the well-deserved stars.Addendum: After re-watching the review that got me interested in it (Votesaxon07, for those curious) the additional sounds are initiated by pushing the button twice, holding on the second.

A great Sonic but still not perfect...
I've spent a lot of time thinking about my feelings on this new sonic. I purchased the 11th Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver Remote Controll back in 2014 and have usid it not only for it's remote function but also as a part of my Matt Smith cosplay while in it's FX mode. When I saw this new release for the 12th Doctor and how it now extends with a flick like it does in the show, I was instantly sold. The flick is fantastically satisfying, something that should've been included in the original production of the 11th Doctor's Sonic. The function of the remote AS A REMOTE is identical to the previous Sonic and works well. There was also the addition of an "all off" feature that quickly scans through all TV codes, powering off everything with three presses of the button (holding on the third press). As far as FX mode goes, the 12th Doctor's Sonic is inferior to it's predecessor. The older release had TONS of sound effects to correspond with every gesture. Twist, push, pull, tap, etc. would all have their own sound. This led to reinacring scenes where The Doctor would scan something and then flick the sonic up and tap on the collar as if reading and scrolling, all would have different sounds on the 11th Sonic. With the 12th Sonic, the list of sound effects is more limited. You have to double press, holding on the second press to activate the gesture based FX which can be a bit cumbersome compared to the always on feature of the 11th.As far as physical differences go, the 11th has a milky green emitter whereas the 12th has an emerald green emitter. The 11th has a pearl white handle whereas the 12th has an aged off-white (almost yellow) handle with some beautiful flecks of black through the plastic. The 11th's control button was on the base whereas the 12th's button is on the grip (where it should be).Lastly, the 11th Sonic came with a beautiful display case to house it while not in use whereas the 12th just came with a tiny plastic stand to clip the base in.All in all, the 12th Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver is a great remote but is lacking in some places that it's predecessor was excelling in. The one thing that has me keeping it and not returning it to Amazon is the perfectly implemented flicking feature.

Wow!
I recently purchased this as a gift for my brother because I love my Sonic Screwdriver remote. I own the 10th Doctor's screwdriver and this one is quite a bit bigger and heavier. <--Good thing! I do wish this remote were USB rechargable, but if that's the only complaint, that's fine. This is very well built and the detail is amazing. Definitely worth the money for any serious Doctor Who fan.
