Must have
Was impressed by this volume so I went out and got the second volume. This series describes each contries air force and if it was in a conflict the conflict as well. The operational history during warfare is covered and found this the most interesting to read about during the many colored aircraft displays and photos provided makes this book one of the few books you can really read over and over again. Rich in history and current organization of each countries air force.

Very good work...
The MiG fighters are known throughout the world and also had an important role in Africa, in the inventory of many air forces and participated in several wars. Tom Cooper, a well-known researcher in military aviation, plunged into the adventure several years ago to write a book about the MiGs in Africa. The first version of this personal research was published in 2004 "African MiGs - MiGs and Sukhois in Service in Sub Saharan Africa," SHI Publications; based on information collected over time by the author. The work was not easy, because the available information was scarce and access to local sources difficult. Even so, the author took a first step with this first work, despite the shortcomings that research contained. From this first work, Tom Cooper developed a new approach with other authors, more complete, which flowed in the publication of two volumes on the MiGs and Sukhois in Africa in Harpia Publishing. These new volumes represent a considerable advance over the first research and are undoubtedly a reference in military aviation and the study of contemporary African air forces.Obviously, an investigation of this magnitude is never free from errors due to the nebulous nature of the sources and the difficulty of collecting information in many countries. To be a deeper work needed to have more authors, able to investigate local sources and stories and provide new approaches to the topics discussed. Still, its research is significant and is for now the best research project we have on the air forces of the African continent. The two volumes are not cheap, but provide the best written information on the subject, while never forgetting that the issue is very complex and we can easily be misled by the nebulous nature of the sources.Besides the content, which should always be considered carefully, we must note that the graphics are very good and Tom got to those level improvements that make the books very nice. A work of these deserves a really good graphics and in that respect, those who buy the books, you will not be disappointed.Another added value of the books is the photos, not always easy to get, but that the two volumes have in abundance. Moreover, in addition to the Sukhois and MiG, the books also cover the jets of Chinese origin present in many African air forces. In short, I can say that will not be easy to get someone to do better. It's amazing the amount of information that the authors were able to collect. Thus, researchers have a good starting point for future work, and enthusiasts, a great encyclopedia to consult whenever they want to know more. It is undisputed that the authors and publisher have done a great work with a good potential for future growth, which could lead to a new edition even more comprehensive. But even without a new edition, this work will be a reference for many years.
