'To a jnani, all is entertainment.'Sri Nisargadatta was a simple man. He lived simply and he answered anyone who questioned him about consciousness and advaita or non-duality.This book is full of his wisdom, mainly in the form of dialogue between this great soul and those who asked him so many, many questions.

As good as Nisagardatta gets
As good as Nisargadatta gets , my first purchase of texts transcribed from interviews by him, bought prior to I am that .In fact I still prefer it , it is helpful if nothing else for sorting the chaff from the wheat , in that there are alot of teachers int he West who claim to teach from a no dual standpoint and don't they simply don't cut the mustard, his statements are direct and un compromising , his level or degree of realization for a Jhani probably as perfect as is possible .Especially as dying of mouth cancer he was ready to as it put it "go home". My question then is how to integrate this on deeper levels? Of the body-mind, Jhnai's are not known for their supernatural acts but for their actual transcendence of the body -mind again I still go back to the Bible and use this as an important text to see that something else , Jesus as the Archetypal God man.

Ultimate Knowledge
Unlike the first book produced on Nisargadatta, "I AM THAT" which was stripped bare of all religious trappings, the discussions recorded in "The Ultimate Medicine" between Nisargadatta and his visitors have many more references to Hindu terminology and concepts. I would therefore recommend that anyone new to Nisargadatta's teachings begin with "I AM THAT".Something I found very interesting in this book were the discussions that centered around one understanding one's birth, which is not really discussed in "I AM THAT". Nisargadatta says several times that all will be clear when one can, understand, experientially, (through meditation), how this consciousness came about, how birth came about. He talks a lot about consciousness, and the lifeforce, and explains how the idea of God arises. It compliments I AM THAT, giving you a slightly different angle on the same thing. The discourses tend to be much longer, and questions shorter. The book was written shortly before Nisargadatta died from cancer, while he was suffering from the illness. His comments concerning this illness are also something to ponder over. This is really a unique and important book, and anyone who seeks enlightenment through *knowledge* should look at this and Nisargadatta's other books. You won't find it more clearly expressed by anyone. Imagine a Zen Buddhist, who, instead of speaking in riddles, just explains clearly what it all is, and what to do.There's no nonsense in this book. He was a unique teacher, and we're fortunate indeed to have his teachings available in book form like this.

Nisargadatta's philosophy of non-believing
The quotation taken at random from The Ultimate Medicine seems to summarize Nisargadatta Maharaj: "I have no faith in any religion, including Hinduism". Everything is called into question. No concept, no name, not even your own, given to you by your parents, has ultimate validity. Nothing should make you feel secure. Nothing whatsoever has any claim on you. He is more than uncompromising; he is devastating in his frontal attack on the constant images which circulate in your mind which determine who you are - to the world and to yourself. I give The Ultimate Medicine 4 stars not 5 - not to underrate what Nisargadatta is saying; but because it may be impossible, except for the extremely few, to realize that other state of mind he speaks about. Yet it is a remarkable document, like all of his recorded talks.

SUPERB
One of the ..... rather the only book which clearly states what Maharaj said. All other books have a subjective interpretation of the author. Example even Ramesh Balsekar while talking about Nisargadatta Maharaj in his book- Pointers from Nisargadatta Maharaj- includes some of his pet concepts such as destiny. However here the author cuts through everything and comes to the point that remain in the "I am". Very well written and clearly understood. Many thanks !!

Beyond Consciousness
This book is a collection of some of the later question and answer sessions between Sri Nisargadatta and visitors from around the world. After finishing `I Am That' I read this book. There is a noticeable difference between the words of Nisargadatta in the two books. `I Am That' is unquestionably the better of the books, and the pinnacle of Maharaj's teachings.During His earlier days, Maharaj was eager to teach, and would continually answer beginners questions. In this book, which collects talks during which He was ill and close to death (the body's death), he stated that he no longer desired to teach, and was a little intolerant of beginners unfamiliar with the basics of his teachings. So this book deals with some of Nisargadatta's more advanced teachings.Maharaj in this book talks about the necessity of understanding your own incarnation, and what you were before the body was born. He talks about the interdependence of the vital breath and consciousness, stating that both consciousness and the sense of `I-Am-Ness' are dependent on the body. This book gave me a better understanding of the principle method taught by Sri Nisargadatta, which is holding onto the sense of `I Am.' He taught that this method will lead to the realization that you are not the body, but consciousness. However, He also said that this isn't the Ultimate, and that even the association with consciousness has to be given up eventually. If I understand correctly, realizing that you are consciousness is Brahman, and when this is realized you become the totality of manifestation. But the Ultimate, Parabrahman, is the witness of the Brahman and the full and final enlightenment. All of this is elucidated in `The Ultimate Medicine.'So, while not the monumental work that `I Am That' is, this book is still very worth reading, especially if you want to go deeper, and read some of the more advanced teachings by this great Master, Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj.

Just Awesome.
Firstly book arrived timely and in great condition. I came across this guy as I am buying as many english transliterated and translated Tantras I can afford as I can afford them. Just by reading reviews I was intrigued and looked a little deeper, decided I had to see the words of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj in-depth myself. I am glad I did. It is so pleasant to read in words what oneself has seen, felt, touched, tasted, smelled, and experienced as expounded by Sri Nisargadatta. He seemed to be such a one as had a teaching for any person at any level and thus will seeming contradictions be found, but hypocrisy never.
