Such a beautiful book.
What an absolutely beautiful book! You know, books like these are for anyone and everyone. Not just a 'Black' person book. It is enlightening. It is a credit to all of us when any individual achieves: male or female, Black or White. Take the story of Clara McBride Hale. She raised 40 children and all of them went to college and graduated. She then decided to retire, but lo and behold, the needy babies kept coming, so she raised another 22. In total, she has taken care of over 600 addicted babies!!!! Who does that????? She is an ordinary lady, rather frail looking, no money lady; you would pass her on the street without a glance. But, my oh my! What she did! So humble she is. Now these are the kind of stories our children and adults need to hear. She does not consider herself a hero; just a person who love children. A must for every library ( public or private).

A classic capsule of the power of outstanding Black Women
I wrote the biography of one of the women in this book, Leah Chase. When I learned of her participation, I immediately bought the book but somehow along the years and through various moves, lost it. I ordered this replacement because it is a book I am proud to have on my shelves. It is a pleasure reading about these women.

A totally inspiring account of great women. I absolutely love it
A totally inspiring account of great women. I absolutely love it. I can never tire of hearing stories about the strength and determination of these beautiful black women. Many are known activists like folk-singer Odetta & Coretta Scott King. But there are MANY women in this book with just short, one page accounts, and boy are these stories amazing. From reading the account of Marva Collins-- an educator who founded her own school, I immediately purchased a DVD on her life. (The Marva Collins story). I got it from "Oldies" and was absolutely enchanted by the oozing love she gave to so many children and how greatly she empowered them. If you can afford it, I recommend your getting as many DVDs, biographies and autobiographies of these women as can be found, because we must keep these stories alive and in the public eye. Whether they are black or white women, or male individuals, I find stories about the human condition and human triumph to be very worthwhile and inspiring. The photos are equally inspiring. Thank you Amazon for keeping the ball rolling. Robin Carter Cannon

Beautiful photography!
This book is a beautiful now as when it came out nearly 30 years ago. The ages of the women featured were important to me. There is beauty in age. This book is timeless!!!

It encourages one's own dreams!
I Dream a World is inspiring in its beautiful photography and the brief stories it shares about the women in the pictures. While it touches on their life stories, this book shares these women's thoughts. That is what draws me closer to this book each time I open it. The women inside, and the book itself, will make you think about your dreams and encourage you to work towards them.No matter what your race or gender, give this book to anyone who needs encouragement. I especially enjoy recommending this book to young women who can learn a lot from the women within its pages.

What a joy it was for me to see it
My nephew bought this for me several years ago and I gave it to a dear young friend. I had been looking for it for some time and found it at a funeral home while attending a celebration of life for a 91 year old woman. What a joy it was for me to see it, especially on that day. I am so glad to have it grace my living room table, sofa, chaise and love seat for others to enjoy.

Four Stars
A wonderful book I purchased this book for my granddaughter, so that she could read about women that are nice role model women. To encourage her to aspire to the best at what ever she decides to do. I would like to get another one for myself.

Otherwise an excellent coffee table book for my own home
The book was more worn that I expected, faded cover made it impossible to give it as a gift as I had planned.Otherwise an excellent coffee table book for my own home.
