Wonderful Bible in a beautiful language, but definitely NOT leather bound.
My wife and I were born, raised and still live in the Gullah region of coastal South Carolina. As children in the 1960's we heard Gullah spoken all the time, although (sadly) the Gullah language and its culture are being destroyed by modernity. Gullah is a rich culture that will be missed when it is gone. In case you don't know, the Gullahs are descendants of French Protestant Acadians who fled Catholic persecution in 17th century Canada. Some of the Acadians settled in southern Louisiana and became "Cajuns." They are primarily white. The Acadians who settled in coastal South Carolina and Georgia blended into communities of African descent and are primarily black. The Gullah language is beautiful to hear and fun to read. I am trained in classical and biblical languages (Hebrew, Greek, Latin, etc.), so it was a thrill to find this New Testament in the Gullah language that many South Carolinians cherish. From a technical perspective, this book was produced with the same high level of integrity as other products from the American Bible Society, a scholarship-driven organization. One word of caution: This Bible is NOT NOT NOT leather bound as has been advertised. It is the same plastic on paper binding that is common on budget priced Bibles. (Amazon should change this annotation immediately.) For this reason, I will give it only four stars. However, it is a perfectly good value without the leather binding. If you enjoy reading the Bible and want to learn more about a unique aspect of coastal South Carolina/Georgia culture, then I recommend this book wholeheartedly.

Perfect for the culture
My husband's family is native Geechee and we have been looking for this for a while. Happy we found it. And it is exactly what we wanted. We love how it translate the gullah on the side margins.

Love this.
I'm from South Carolina so the Gullah culture is important to us.I've given this to many people as gifts - and it always is the first (and last!) gift stolen in white elephant exchanges.

Challenging to read, yet colorful and engaging
I purchased this translation because I was looking for a Bible geared toward black Americans. Language is important, and I hope to use this translation to further study the origins of African-American dialect. I found that reading aloud was the only way for me to get the most out of this translation, and it makes learning fun. This is a very unique translation that everyone should own!

Excelente
As Escrituras no idioma Gullah realmente superaram minha expectativa, material com um ótimo acabamento, fontes das letras maiores, além do tamanho da Bíblia. O preço melhor ainda. Gostei e indico.
