Works well. Wish they'd put angle markings on the rod.
I purchase this about a year and a half ago and just used it for the first time about a week ago. I think it worked well. I just wish they would put angle markings on the vertical rod. Setting the ankle was a little clumsy/awkward, but that's my fault really because I was using my iPhone. I recommend using an angle finder. It was easy to use once I got it set up.Edit: Shortly after posting this review I realized why there are no angle markings on the vertical rod. It is because every knife will fit in the clamp differently. In fact, the same knife might not be set in the clamp exactly the same way every time. That is why you must set the angle every time.

Works well, does wiggle a little loose during ise
The sharpener arrived today. It feels pretty substantial, and has some nice weight to it. It assembles easily, and was intuitive to set up. The instructions are definitely written by someone that has English as a second language. I took a fairly dull hunting knife through all the grit values of stones which came with it. I obtained a decent edge. The stones are water stones, and they do wear during use. I suspect I will have to buy replacement stones in a few years. Some of the screws and threads wiggled loose during use, but it was not really a big issue. The clamp holds the blade very nicely, and seems pretty solid. It is challenging to sharpen very short blades (shorter than the clamp) but again, not big deal. Overall I like it better than my lansky or worksharp sharpeners. Solid 4, maybe 4.5 out of 5. I'd like to see a 6000 or higher stone for it. Maybe some durable oil stones.

From beat up to shaving sharp in 2 hours
What I liked about this product . I read the reviews of a million and one of these sharpeners . I couldn’t decide which one to get . It was after I read a review on this one , there was a guy that kept on mentioning a different brand .... and how this one has a few pitfalls ...... so I thought ,” why is a dude on here talking about this product but keeps name dropping a different brand ?” So I looked up that other one and it’s like 500 dollars - so maybe he just is really into gear and loves sharpening blades ? Idk - but he had a few tips as far asTechnique....... I followed his advice and I bought this system . So I’ll tell you this - don’t flip the blade while I’m the jaws - just leave the jaws and take out the blade /flip the blade/ you’ll have the exact angle then with no variation ( his tip ) and then do a few strokes , wipe the blade and the stone ( again his advice) I don’t have a strop yet and I was able to shave the back of my hand after the first use on my old Rapala fillet knife . It took me roughly 2 hours to go through all of the stones . But it was my first time . Now it’s just maintenance and I can use the top few stones and be done . I really had a good time using this . You get a feel of the stones cutting with no pressure at all .... literally let the stone do the work .What I didn’t like - and I’ve used it once . I will update when I do my second knife .I didn’t like the stones being so thin , I felt like I really was concentrating on. It dropping them because I am a caveman , and I literally break every single thing I touch . But that’s just me . So that isn’t a flaw in the product as much as it is me being rough as hell on gear . I got into a nice rhythmWorking the stones , soaking one ahead of the one I was using - keeping them clean after 4-5 strokes just wipe them with a wet towel and the blade too .... then wet the stone and go a few more strokes ..... you’ll see the metal coming off that blade , and if you can just be patient you will have an excellent blade . 2 hours was a horribly abused blade going to shaving sharp . So anyway , great purchase for me , I would buy it again for sure . I looked for weeks and decided to pull the trigger on this system..... same or next day shipping ... free returns ? Man I couldn’t lose !!! And I didn’t .... great set up . 4 instead of 5 because I feel like I’m too brutal and may break the stones .

It “works”, but it is far from great.
Cmon China, you can do better. This thing in theory would be awesome, but it has a handful of design/implementation fails. The worst being the poorly designed stone clamp that absolutely will not hold a sharpening stone tightly unless you have a stone cradle, which is not included. The clamping screws for the various rods should be butterfly nuts so you can tighten them down decently. The model sent to me has a new metal pivot point instead of plastic. I was glad to see that. The handle doesn’t stay attached to the sharpening plane very well, as I’ve seen in several review videos. The base of the unit is actually pretty decently made and holds on tight to whatever you attach it to.I’ve ordered some diamond sharpening stones that come with clamp cradles. Hopefully they will stay put and I can get some use out of this thing.

If your like me and can't sharpen a knife, do yourself a favor and just buy this
I have never been able to sharpen a knife well, from boy scouts to middle age.i can not hold a steady angle well enough for free hand sharpening. I've tried all manner guides and gadgets none have provided satisfactory results.I've had this thing a week and I've already reprofiled and sharpened all my kitchen knives. Moving on to hunting knives next.Once you get a rythem going it's super simple and you can actually see the edge getting sharper with each stroke. Sure it's not a Wicked Edge system, but it's also less than a tenth the price.I am very satisfied with this system.
