MammutUnisex Ducan 24 Trekking and hiking backpack (pack of 1)
D**D
Not for hikers
This is almost so close to being so good, but misses out badly. So much so, i’m sending it straight back before going out with itGood stuffThe frame looks very breathable. The bag is roomy, and the hood lid has pockets on both sides. These are a godsend when hikingThe side pockets were a decent size, and accessible whilst wearing the bag. I could put a 380ml lucozade bottle or a camera lens in here, and whilst the contents were trapped by the loose mesh, i wouldnt have feared them moving out, because the pocket is angled upwards. not vertical, but well enough to be secure (unless you bend forward)The bag feels light. Lighter than the weight describedIf the above is all you want, you’re got a good badThe terribleThe running style straps, with pockets on the front are near useless. I tried to put a 380ml lucozade bottle in each, and they barely stay in, because the pocket is just too small. Anything bigger, and they’re falling out or not even getting into the pocket. Add to this, the pockets are slightly tapered at the entrance, and then again slightly obstructed by the chest strap system. This is why i’m sending the bag back. if they used bigger pockets, maybe with a bungee closing, the bag would basically be perfect, but this choice has ruined it for meThe chest strap system is one cord across the chest, so it looks weird wearing the bag. Like it’s trying to explode off you. This is why these sorts of bags need two chest straps, to give you the control you needSummaryIf this bag had the strap pockets of an osprey talon velocity, or a ultimate direction fastpack 20 (especially with the pocket closing system that has), this bag would be pretty much perfect. But with what it has, it has to go back.
