Very good deal
This is a fabulous set. It came in this really pretty box with a folder for each season. The folders are cardboard and will definitely scratch the discs when removed and reinserted. We bought a DVD case to put the discs in instead of keeping them in the original folders to prevent scratching.Others have complained that they became scratched and we wanted to avoid this issue all together. We found a cheap case for them and love this series. Such a wholesome, beautiful show!Would recommend! :)

Poor quality disks
UPDATE: I received a replacement set from Amazon. This set still had problems, but was much better. All but 12 episodes were readable. Unfortunately, the 12 episodes that could not be read in this set were all episodes that could not be read in the first set. So, I guess I will send this back to Amazon for another replacement and continue until I get one that is readable. I have starred the episodes below that also failed in the replacement set.ORIGINAL:I read the reviews before I bought this set, but figured that I would be OK. I rip all of our DVDs and there is usually a higher tolerance for disks that are hard to read when ripping than when playing them on a DVD player. No such luck in this case, unfortunately. I attempted to rip them with two different drives and one or the other would occasionally be able to read an episode that the other couldn't, but many could not be read by either drive. In my set, 37 episodes are unreadable. It appears that the middle episode of any five episode disk is unplayable, which makes me suspect a bad transition between layers. If you want to test your set, I recommend trying to play the third episode on any five episode disk. Those middle episodes failed on the same disks in both sets that I received. As far as I can tell, these disks are just poorly manufactured. You can see areas of poor adhesion between the layers looking at many of the disks. In addition, many of the disks have small deposits of something brownish that seems like plastic. It can be scraped off, which helps with the disks that are affected, but many of the disks have no such contamination and still can't be read. There are a lot of episodes in this set and the first couple of disks played normally. If I hadn't been ripping them, I might not have realized how bad the set is until it was too late to return it. While the packaging doesn't do this set any favors, the problem isn't scratching. Just look at the list of episodes below. 7,16,21 repeats through the first half of the disks and then 8,13,18,21. The same episodes fail to play because the problem is structural. This is a list of unreadable episodes in my set. I will be sending this back to Amazon for replacement in the hope that I get a set that reads better or at least differently. I will update to note whether the same or different disks are affected in the replacement set. Given the pattern, I am not at all optimistic that the replacements will be any different. This is true quality TV.
Shows like these are such a refreshing respite from all the smutty trash that's all over TV today.I see a lot of older shows coming back on television. I also see more Christian based movies playing in movie theaters. I think a lot of people are craving more shows with morals, a strong family unit, clean dialogue and more modest attire."Little House on the Prairie" fits that bill to a T.I've watched all 9 seasons and the Special Features in less than a week.I can actually binge watch TV shows like these without getting bored. Not so with the new, empty shows airing on just about every channel. Those, I have to take breaks from often."LHOTP" is a family friendly series. No cussing, sexual situations, gory scenes or nudity. Being a bully, telling lies and doing or saying evil, vindictive things is condemned not condoned or meant to be looked up to.Unfortunately, many TV shows and movies today try to make being bad, getting revenge and sleeping around look like good things to strive for.Sex, nudity and foul language does not a good movie make.Unlike what certain whiners think about the "LHOTP" TV show and the collection of books, neither is racist. Banning the books in certain libraries was completely ridiculous.I'm glad to see it had no effect on DVD and book sales."LHOTP" is now streaming on Amazon. So, even negative publicity is still publicity.I highly recommend this series. A wonderful show for all ages.If some people are influenced by what they watch then I'd rather they be influenced by TV shows like "LHOTP". Believe me, you could do a whole lot worse.Better to look up to regular people with good moral values than some cutesy, rich celebrity using their fame and $$ to try to politically bully people with crazy, unfair ultimatums.Get the DVD set of "LHOTP". Get the books, too.You won't regret it.

Good, but some problems
The episodes are great for the most part, but some episodes have had times where it freezes. Some worse than others. I'm half way through, hopefully there won't be too many more freezes.

family friendly classic
What I like about these is the classic family values taught in an entertaining way. Subject matter is great for opening family discussions on history and values. This series reinforces what we teach our children on how to live a good life....and its fun. Nothing needs to be sensored. Nothing in the way of bad language, sex, violence, or anything objectionable.... so you can relax and enjoy. Binge-watchable for sure. Doesn't follow the books exactly but dont discount it for that because they are wonderful.
