Lo loves it
We just upgraded from the regular doc a tot. There isn’t much room in our bed but LO loves it and sleeps well

Better than expected
I did not think this thing would be worth all of the hype. It is! I'm able to have a safe area next to me for baby. My LO is 2 months in this picture so I personally wouldn't waste money on the smaller Dock, I couldn't imagine it lasting very long. I put play yard sheets around the top section with a liner underneath for quick cleaning. A crib sheet would probably fit around the whole thing too.

Made for safer co sleeping, not miracles
First, I've read a lot of reviews and what seems to be happening most frequently is that there is a baby that sleeps really well, then something happens - teething, illness, sleep regression, etc - and the baby stops sleeping for a bit. The tired parent buys a dockatot and the baby starts sleeping well again. From what I know, these babies were going to go back to sleeping well anyway, so it's really hard to tell whether the dockatot actually makes any difference.I have a terrible sleeper. She was a great sleeper for about a month before her 4 month regression, but she hasn't been since. We've had nights where she wakes every 30-45 min, and some miraculous nights where she slept maybe 6 hours. Most often, she sleeps maybe 4 hours, then 2.5, then another 3, then another 2 hours. She was sleeping okay for a while, maybe 3-4 hour stretches, but right before we got the dockatot, she was flopping all over the bed. Sleeping very restlessly and waking us up all night. I got the dockatot out of desperation to corral her. This is my experience:The first night she woke up at least hourly, crawling out of the dock and all over me. The second night she slept pretty well - only waking twice. The third night was hourly again. Then she sleep well. This happened for a bout a week, but by the end of 7 days ( I promised myself I would give it a week), she was only waking up once or twice. For my baby, this is pretty amazing. This lasted for several weeks. Then she had her birthday, then she started teething, and now she is crawling out of the dockatot constantly. The past two weeks, the only thing the dockatot has done is take up a huge amount of room in our bed.So, my opinion of this item is that it can help, but it isn't a sleep miracle:1) I think it keeps us from disturbing each other for cosleeping, which is great if your baby is a good sleeper but you're waking each other up.2) It seemed to help slightly decrease night nursing. My daughter went from nursing every 2-3 hours to once 1-2 times a night once the barrier of the dockatot was between us. She's back to frequent nursing again, but also teething.3) We bought the Grand when she was about 11 months. Maybe the smaller one would work better, starting younger, at the rolling stage or something. It doesn't keep a crawling or walking baby in at all if they don't want to be.4) This thing is HUGE. We're going on a trip soon but I can't imagine bringing it. It's as big as my 65lb dog's bed. It's ok when my baby actually sleeps IN it because then she's not all over the bed. But it takes up way too much room if she escapes and wants to flop around.5) It's a breathable material. This is great. I can shove my face into it and still breathe, although I would take care if your baby/toddler has a cold. But be careful, it stops being breathable if you put other fabrics on it. Also, this means it isn't the softest material. It has sort of a canvas texture, which might annoy some.I haven't put this in her crib, 1) because she gets hysterical in her crib, and 2) because the FAQs say not to, for safety reasons, I'm sure. In that regard, I don't know how it would help with crib transitions. It hasn't for us so far.All in all, I think it is worth a try. It isn't a miracle, and it really doesn't justify the high price. I think it should be literally half the price (or less). However, I am still hoping that right now is a teething phase and we will go back to waking only 1-2 times a night with it.

No more frequent wake ups at night
This was a game changer for us!Initially we started off with the infant size and then our little guy grew out of it around 5months when we transitioned to a crib. We never sized up with the doc a tot since we didn’t think it would make much of a difference. Boy were we wrong! We ended up realizing at 18months that we needed the doc a tot back into our routine and bought the next size up (he is 20months in this pic). We are so glad we did and our only regret is that we didn’t purchase it earlier to help with transitioning to crib. He sleeps so much better now because of it! We love our doc a tot! It’s totally worth every penny!I rated it 4 out of 5 only because ours came without the buckle at the end of it. We realized it later and wish we would have noticed it initially.

It is a varigated/ ribbed dobby like fabric; I don't see how a fabric of ...
Would've given 5 stars for my initial impression- just received this afternoon & my baby has yet to sleep on it. As far as the cushions go, it is soft without being too lofty, both on the "mattress" portion that the baby lies on as well as the surrounding "bumper" cushion. The reason I have initially rated it 4 & not 5 stars is because of the only issue I currently have- I do not like the fabric the cover is made of. The texture of the "pristine white" fabric cover does not feel comfortable. It is a varigated/ ribbed dobby like fabric; I don't see how a fabric of that texture would be conducive to comfortable sleep for anyone, let alone a baby or toddler. It is designed such that the baby/ child lies directly on top of this bumpy fabric; I'm sure most people reading this review are pretty well versed in safe sleep guidelines for babies. The ribs are fine and very rigid/ firm. I could see how if the LO's head was turned sideways or an older child was side sleeping on this, that the fabric would press on & leave lines all over the face, almost like lying on a sheet or blanket that's all bunched up. I'm not sure why the manufacturer thought this fabric would be a good idea to use.I covered the DockaTot Grand with an organic jersey fitted crib sheet because of this varigated fabric; a standard fitted crib sheet, it fit snugly over the DockaTot. Will update this review after my baby has slept on it for several days.Oh and another thing, at the $260 price point I would think that an organic cotton cover would be doable for the manufacturer as well. I did not deduct any stars for the lack of this. Still, it would be wonderful to have a sleeping surface for my baby that had never been treated with the toxic persistant pesticides that most conventional cotton plants are prayed with while growing. (Most conventional cotton plants now come from genetically modified seeds or GMOs. These cotton plants' DNA has been genetically engineered to thrive despite being treated with strong pesticides). Hey, I guess I can't have comfort, safety AND nasty-pesticide-free all in one product. If my baby sleeps safely through the night it will be a sacrafice willingly made. We'll see...
