I like Maya Kaimal's Everyday Dal, so I was excited to try her new Everyday Chana. I wanted to like this, but I'm very disappointed. As soon as I opened the packet (Black Chickpeas, Coconut, and Green Chili flavor), I noticed a very weird odor, almost medicinal. Not sure if it's the fennel or cloves. Also, the consistency isn't right. The gravy is very thin, and amount of chana and vegetables is quite stingy. I could not stomach it, so I had to throw it away (I hate throwing away food). Wish I could have bought a single packet instead of a pack of 6. I should add that this was the only flavor I didn't like. I tried the other three flavors and they were much better.

At the original price of $4-5 per unit, this is a great and economical way to have a good nutritious dinner on tap. At >$6.50 per unit, thought, it stops being worth it. Hoping that Maya Kaimal gets over themselves and returns to a reasonable price someday soon.

When people order the variety pack, that's what they expect to get, not a box of ONE flavor. This is a case of you DON'T get what you pay for.

We live in an area where we do not have an Indian restaurant. I keep these packets in our pantry for whenever we get a yen for Indian food. Just follow the simple directions on the packet, and you will have a quick meal ready to go. I add some sauteed veggies or mead to the packet, just to round out the meal. Or, you could serve it with a salad.

Ordered a variety pack and arrived as all the same flavor. Tastes good at least!

I’m not a fan of some foods with coconut so several of these don’t taste that great to me. The couple without coconut are okay. Like the tomato gravy. But pretty high in fat. I ordered dal variety next thinking I would enjoy it more. But Amazon sent me another one of these - their error. When I called to get a refund or replacement that was correct - unlucky again. Amazon CSR may have been new. She kept saying her computer wouldn’t work right, she put me hold more than once for way too long, and when I finally had to go she promised to call me back - but then did not. So maybe don’t order these.

I was pleasantly surprised by the boldness of the flavor - it’s surprisingly spicy with some kick - and the spices are fragrant. It can be a quick lunch with or without rice. Or a light dinner with a side salad or steamed veggies. Good protein source. Very handy in pouches - would travel well. You could consume it cold if and it would be fine. I will purchase again.

These meals are a life saver, for me. I'm a lone vegetarian in a house full of carnivores. Before finding these meals, had to cook 2 completely separate meals, now I don't. Meat and rice for them. Pop this in the micro for 90 secs & toss over said rice for me. These taste like home made, so I do not feel like I'm missing out, they are both nourishing and delicious. High protein, too. I'm a huge fan!
