Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest - Season One [Blu-ray]

Really good story and fan service. Got some great fights.

This is a review of the basic Arifureta Series on BD/DVD combo. This consists of two Blu-rays and two DVDs. I have only watched the two blu-rays. Blu ray one has episodes 1 - 6 inc. episode 5.5 while blu-ray 2 has episodes 7 - 12 and two OVAs.The plot - Arifureta opens with a team of adventurers in a dungeon. When they find themselves in trouble the team is saved by Hajime Nagumo who is thrust deeper in the dungeon than anyone has ever gone before while saving his fellow adventurers. We follow Hajime's desperate attempts to survive and learn that he is teenage high school student who has been brought to this world to fight the dmon army. His classmates are the rest of the adventurers he saved earlier. As Hajime gets stronger he meets Yue and together they learn the secrets of the world. When Hajime and Yue escape the dungeon they form a team, well harem really, and begin their journey to escape this strange world.Animation - Some of the CGI is poorly executed but in general this is great visually.Voice acting - I haven't listened to the english soundtrack. I never do but the subtitles and Japanese acting are great.Commentary - This series starts off with Hajime being forced deepr into the dungeon through an act of betrayal. His struggles to survive and the first two episodes of the anime are dark and sinister. I did wonder if I had started a horro anime by mistake. It livens up quite quickly and becomes a fun action/harem adventure with sprinkles of plot thrown in. This is just my cup of tea. Hajime is a great anti-hero. His character development, mood swings and general air of nonchalant schadenfreude make him one of the more memorable and interesting characters in modern isekai anime. The side plot with his class-mates spoils the flow of the adventure a bit and I could do without it. However, if you concentrate on Hajime and the girls then this is a great, fun anime. It has a lot of action and snark. Fans of the manga won't necessarily like it but it's great. I've binge watched it twice (miss out the unnecessary summay episdoe on disk 1). This is one of my favorite animes. For whatever reason, I love isekai's, and this is a great overpowered isekai. I like the story and characters. Some of the fan service is unneeded, but it isn't too bad. The Blu-Ray I received was in good condition and was what you'd expect.

The series is good. Fun with a few dark moments but overall worth watching.Make sure that you order the right version.

I really enjoy this show, the characters have more realistic reactions than many other isekai shows. Shay(the rabbit girl), is especially amusing, and while she is simplistic, it makes sense for her to be so. Expect the main to be OP, a harem to form around him and you won’t be disappointed. For the bad, the animation quality could be better,. The use of cgi in some scenes is somewhat jarring.
