The Invasion: A Graphic Novel (Animorphs #1) (1) (Animorphs Graphic Novels)

A faithful graphic adaption of the classic sci-fi horror series - for kids, but not just for kids
What a fantastic adaption! The art, writing, tone, and so on are spot on to the books, even bringing in aspects that foreshadow future events in background vignettes. All of the characters are well realized, just as in the original Animorphs books, and their individual personalities shine in the graphic novel format. One thing I will say is that the horror is strangely amplified, reading this as an adult, and seeing just how young everyone is. Jake's brother Tom doesn't come across as nearly an adult as he does when seen through Jake-as-a-protagonist's eyes in prose, but rather he looks like someone who's still just a kid himself. Chilling. At any rate, I highly recommend this both to old fans who grew up with the series and to new fans alike, as this graphic adaption is not an abridged, inferior version, but a faithful version in its own right.

A great introduction to a wonderful series
Animorphs is a series of books, and I can’t think of a better way to tell this story than in something like a graphic novel series. The book is given time to tell its story, and the art can convey a lot with a Saturday morning cartoon look.

Wonderful New Addition To An Amazing Series
I'm a long time, avid fan of the Animorphs series. Started reading it in middle school, and I spent many years searching for and acquiring all of the books as a collection, which I completed 5 years ago. I thought my collection was absolutely complete. I thought this series was dead and only remembered as a quirk of the 90s/00s.But I was wrong. It turns out it is more fondly remembered than I ever anticipated, and it has made a grand return in the form of this lovely graphic novel adaptation! I was concerned that it would take some... liberties... like the old TV show did, but after reading it for a few minutes it was clear that the artist lovingly rendered every scene as faithfully as possible. This book is most definitely a labor of love and it shows! From the words of acknowledgement from Applegate herself, the setting apparently being in the 90s, the aliens and morphing being suitably creepy and yet not hard to look at, and the beautifully touching expressions on the characters, it is clear that they wanted to give us hardcore fans the highest quality adaptation possible.I love this series. I love it so, so much, I can't even put it into words. And this graphic novel absolutely did it justice. I love it! I'm super stoked for the next volume, to keep reading on and enjoy the fabulous art, and to continue my collection!

Excellent Adaptation
As a lifelong Animorphs fan, I've tended to be critical of most adaptations of the original books, both official and otherwise. This is, far and away, the best realization of the story of Animorphs #1 since the actual book. The first thing I want to say is that this is a real adaptation, not just the book but abridged and with pictures. The strengths of the medium of comics are used to tell the story in a new and interesting way. Where the book might have spent a couple sentences describing the impression Jake got from something Tom said, this comic will instead simply leave the sentence hanging, and leave it to the reader to interpret the real meaning behind those words by looking at Tom's facial expression. It's a more subtle take on the story, and I thoroughly enjoyed this version. Through it all, it's still Animorphs, as intense and unflinching as it ever was.Another thing worth noting are that this comic is based on the 2011 reprint book, which doesn't come up much because of the relative lack of narration, but there are a few elements of the 1996 original that have been updated to be compliant with the larger continuity.I look forward to future issues of this adaptation and hope they figure out a way to get through to at least The Andalite Chronicles in less than thirteen years.

A fine adaptation
This comic is quite faithful to the original book. The art helps me piece together the more alien parts (bug fighters look vaguely like cockroaches, but not exactly; the yeerk pools look more sci-fi than what I first imagined they would be; I finally know exactly what Visser Three’s monster morphs look like!), and I like the designs of main characters: they look more like regular teens now. I hope to see more of this.

Popular 90s novel turned into a comic book
I was ecstatic when I found out via Amazon that the popular 90s book series Animorphs are being converted into comic book form. I checked out the free pages as a sneak peek and read the reviews in which people said they were not disappointed. I decided to buy it to add to my Animorphs book collection. As I was reading it, I really liked the illustrations, etc. and the book did stay true to the original novel. I plan to buy the rest of the comic books and hope more will be coming out!

loved this as a kid!
I have all of the original books in first edition print. I’ve read the series and re read it multiple times since. It helped me get into reading, and I still remember my late nights and remember most of the stories. I recently realized there were kindle versions, and stumbled on the graphic novels. While this style of comic art is not my particular preference, it works with the story and I’m blown alway from the accuracy from the book to comic page. Love that my childhood books series is getting some modern love! I hope they are able to do all of them!
