Healthy Alkaline Diet Guide: What to Know, Why It Works, and What to Eat

Misinformation
This book mislabels strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries as Highly Alkaline. It also lists blueberries, cherries and apple cider vinegar as Medium Alkaline. This information is not only incorrect, it is also dangerous for anyone needing to watch their acid intake, especially people with GERD, LPR and gastritis. Check out “The Acid Watcher Diet” by Dr Jonathan Aviv, MD, ENT.

Everything you wanted to know about an alkaline diet, but were afraid to ask
Lauren does a phenomenal job of tackling the tricky topic of alkaline diets. I appreciated her honesty, fairness, and scientifically backed assessment of what alkaline diets are and what they are not. She clearly points out to the reader that there is no conclusive scientific evidence alkaline diets work but it can still be a healthy diet option since it focuses on nutrient-dense foods. Her three week menu plan is a great guide for anyone getting started on trying this way of eating out. The recipes are also top-notch!! A couple I particularly have like are both the sweet potato and carrot medallions and the zucchini, bell pepper, and basil soup - outstanding! Get your copy today!

This book is for real!
First thing I did was scour through the recipes! And yes, and delicious healthy egg salad!!! Yummy. This book is wonderful because it dispels the “google” or internet blog-speak of the alkaline diet and really sets forth the logic and pure wonders of eating healthy!!

Essential info in one well organized place.
This book has a list of what food/stuff to get and where to keep it. That's gold for people like me. The recipes look great, I went straight for the PB Frosting and ate it from the jar I put it in. Why waste a carb on a piece of toast? And there is a whole ratings chart section so you can keep an eye on how acidic the foods you're choosing are! This book is a good size for traveling for those of us who move around a lot. Brilliant! The info I need all in one place. Thank you Lauren O'Connor!

It is best to get your nutrition information from a qualified registered dietitian nutritionist.
O'Connor shows her expertise and professionalism with the presentation of The Alkaline Diet Guide in a manner that presents the evidence, the background, and ultimately a nutrition concept that is attainable and has stood the test of time. Research continues to support that the best eating patterns are those that are plant based with less added fats, sugars, and less healthful components. I do not recommend interpretations of "diets" that are based on marketing of hype and unsubstantiated concepts so I appreciate how the author gave a background of the theory of the alkaline diet while promoting the concepts that are supported by science which is a plant based varied diet that we can enjoy and sustain. I am looking forward to trying some recipes.

Yummy Food
I have followed two recipes so far, the Sweet Potato Carrot Medallions and the Quinoa Black Bean Veggie Bowl. I found them both tasty and satisfying.

Creative plant-based cookbook
This fun cookbook has a straightforward and direct approach to dispel the myths about the alkaline diet with sound scientific evidence, providing scientific facts and a bottom-line commentary on various health aspects of the diet. The author has clearly done her research, and she focuses only on the known benefits of the diet, which are primarily because it is plant-based. The recipes are simple and easy to follow, with creative twists on familiar items. This book is a great introduction to plant-based menu options with easy to find, minimally processed ingredients. In particular, the book’s nutritional breakfast and snack ideas would be great for families trying to promote healthy eating for their kids.
