Quality resource for the price
I took the PMP in late May 2017, and I passed! I attribute most of my success in sticking to this book and not jumping around between other books.I used this entire book, the PMBOK, and some old online practice quizzes via PMTraining to prepare for my exam over the course of about 5 weeks.I highly recommend this book because it focuses by process group, which I at first I loathed because my previous material was all organized by knowledge area - but I trained my mind to think by process area because it's just more natural, per this book's and many others' suggestions.I am satisfied with this book for its price and relative quality, but after seeing a few other resources out there from my PM colleagues, thought this one is lacking in two areas:1) The 200 question practice exam at the end (I finished it in one sitting 2hrs55min. I finished the real exam in 3hr58min including review of marked questions) of the book question style was very little like the exam I took. I don't think I am allowed to say much more than that. Find an additional resource if you want better quality practice exam questions.2) This book is in need of some love by a graphic designer. I know that's a low level gripe, but it could've benefitted from some additional layout choices and overall style choices that made it clunky to use at times.

In the first five minutes of owning this book I was SO GLAD I bought it!
I just received this book today and after just reading through the first few pages, I actually broke into tears because I FINALLY feel like I know where to start so I might be ready for my exam in 30 days (I've been procrastinating because I honestly didn't even know how to begin!), THANK YOU!!!I have taken some basic classes (provided by my employer) and have a ton of notes and even when I felt okay about my knowledge base I have not been at all consistent in my practice tests (even open book!), so never felt like I should take the test. I am now at my test registration anniversary deadline (one year to take the test) with one chance to pass or fail... eeek! So last week I decided I would not be forfeiting all this time and money by just cancelling it. I saw this book and ordered it.When the book arrived today. I opened it and from the get go found it shows me EXACTLY what I need to really focus on first so that I have the base knowledge to proceed. And I know that after I do that, I can continue to use this tool to help me eliminate the wrong answers to find the best answer with the practice tests (I LOVE THIS APPROACH!) Just looking at a few questions I saw immediately how I can use the knowledge I've gained through my classes and with some additional review of everything I've learned in these next few weeks, to eliminate wrong answers, which gives me the confidence I need to go through all this for just one more month.I'm officially excited to study and prep for my exam now, fingers crossed!

This book stands out
This book was my favorite study guide for the exam, for several reasons already cited in other reviews. Here are the features I love:1) The study tip to memorize Tools and Techniques for each process. SUPER helpful in understanding what goes on and how for each process. It was far more effective than trying to memorize inputs and outputs.Frankly I was just kind of skimming over the T&T descriptions in the PMBOK until this text stressed their importance.2) The topic presentation by process group instead of knowledge area. I found that much more intuitive and logical.3) The clear explanations and reinforcing questions concerning commonly confused terms or concepts (e.g., control quality vs. perform quality assurance).4) The repetition of key topics throughout the book, especially in the answer explanations. I did every question in the book, and the repetition made things stick without the pain of trying to memorize.5) The inclusion of the extra materials (outside of PMBOK). The exam content outline guided my study and research and helped me target what areas I really didn't understand.6) The descriptions of documents = excellent.I passed the test today on my first try. I took a 10 week class that met once a week, read PMBOK, read Rita and did all exercises, and read this book and did all exercises. I thought the test was difficult but fair, and the questions in this book are pretty comparable. Kindle version is perfect!Thank you for writing a book that promotes understanding!!My preparation included a 10 week class, reading the PMBOK, Rita and this book. I started in April and passed the test today.

I Passed the PMP Exam on My First Attempt
I passed the PMP exam on 09/16/16 thanks to Aileen Ellis's PMP Exam Simplified and her study plan. I have used several other sources in addition to Aileen's book, but it is Aileen's book that I worked through from beginning to end and it helped me more than any of the other books ( I tried Rita's book which seems very good but I found it a little onerous. I also tried the Head First book which is cute but it was a little squirrelly for me and I didn't finish it.) Additionally, I took a workshop provided by my PMI chapter several years ago and I took an online class. But it was Aileen's book and the structure that allowed me to understand the PMBOK Guide and attain my PMP. I own three PMBOK Guides because I was not able to finish the book before it expired and the new guide was published. This year I was intent on getting it done. Honestly, I had not heard of Aileen Ellis's book until I was searching on Amazon for a study guide. I received Aileen's book and was so excited because the format made the PMBOK Guide make sense to me and it was exactly what I needed. I read Aileen's book and used tabs for all the references to the PMBOK guide. I took all of the quizzes and practice exams. I made the flashcards. I highly recommend this study guide for people who are looking for a resource that will help to understand the PMBOK Guide and prepare them for the PMP Exam.

1) PMP Exam Simplified - I like the way the book laid out
Passed PMP last week on my first try. This book is the key for passing exam. Here I share how I prepared for the exam, and hope it helps someone. Overall, I studied on my own for about 3 months, no training class. Spent 2-3 hours every day. I have 3 reference books:1) PMP Exam Simplified - I like the way the book laid out, in concise language, and to the point. It help me understand PMBOK, and even make the boring concepts more sense. I read this book twice, completed all questions, and analyzed the mistakes I made. The full sample test is comparable with actual exam. It give me a good feeling of how the exam like, although the actual exam is perhaps a little more difficult.2) PMBOK 5th edition – scan through to understand the basics.3) PMP Exam Prep 8th Edition by Rita Mulcahy – I did not read everything, but I read and understood the key concepts listed at the first page of each chapter, practised all questions, and analyzed the mistakes I made, and reviewed my weak area. I like it has some tough questions. Expect tough ones in the exam.I absolutely recommend this book for everyone who is preparing for the exam.

Excellent resouce for PMP candidates
PMP Exam Simplified: Updated for the 2016 Exam was purchased as a supplemental resource and it was a good choice. The opening section and throughout the entire resource there are very useful exam tips that help to reinforce the theory in preparation for the PMP exam. The content is organized in such a way that learning concepts are reinforced based upon application to the 5 processes of project management. I found that the content was mirror image to the PMBOK 5e but was presented in a easier to read format - this is very critical since the PMP exam is based upon the concepts and theory from PMBOK 5e. The advantage of PMP Exam Simplified: updated for 2016 Exam is that it reinforces concepts and theories with multiple choice questions (MCQs) throughout. The added bonus is that it provides explanation and references the concepts to support the correct answer per question. This helps students to better understand the project management theory in preparation for the real PMP exam. Excellent resource

I wrote the exam today and passed within Target. ...
I wrote the exam today and passed within Target. You definitely need to get this book, as well as her other books since the PMBOK doesn't really explain the process well. Aileen breaks it down as laymans terms and focuses on processes rather than knowledge areas. Understanding the ITTO on their respective knowledge areas is key to passing the exam. All of her resource will definitely help you pass the PMP exam.
