Great for engaging kids and encouraging reading!
Ok, first let me say that yes, this kid gets into way too much trouble and yes that COULD be a bad example for some children. However, if you use it as a teaching tool then it makes it funny for the kids. I know that some people don't like how Little Critter gets into trouble, but my kids just giggle and tell me what he should have done. They have a great imagination with these books and LOVE pointing out the mouse and the spider in each page. It amazes them that they are always around and they think they are "so cute".These books are great for engaging kids and as long as they don't get too distracted by the mouse and the spider (we have to read it twice sometimes because the first time they are just pointing out those two little guys) then this book is perfect for encouraging reading. I like to read the books one or two times first to them and then let my oldest try reading them. He's just learning but he does very well when he likes the characters... and he likes these books!

Funny short bedtime story
My twins love these books! They laugh at the pictures. I love that they are short so we can read a couple books before bedtime.

Little Critter I Can Read
I've been a fan of Little Critter books for a long time. They are good for young readers because the pictures are always lots of fun, and the stories are entertaining. They are often also easy for young readers to read on their own. I wasn't disappointed by Just Helping My Dad. I was looking for first grade level books for my grandson, and this was exactly right. I would always recommend Little Critter books!

Critter's Rule ...
Our 6yr old grandson is a beginner reader and this little book is right up his alley. He loves being in the garage and out in the yard. All his dad's DIY projects have small boy's touch. He loves his Little Critter books. I think he may have all the titles... smile

Little helpers can often make a bigger mess by helping,
Just Helping My Dad is another fun little book by Mercer Mayer. Little Critter just wants to spend a whole day helping dad with the chores, but ends up just making more work for his poor parents. Little Critter means well he tries to make his dad breakfast, mow the lawn, wash the car, paint the shed, knock down a bees nest, help dad shop at the hardware store, fix the toilet. Basically general things all of us homeowners have to deal with one time or another. I think the underlying theme is that kids just want to help but often end up making a big mess until they get a little bigger where they can be of help. Little Critter's heart is in the right place and his dad does come to appreciate all the trying and effort his son put into making their weekend day a success. My favorite part of the book is near the end when the dad and son both are passed out on the couch watching TV with mom and sister are quietly giggling at them. That is the beauty of Mercer Mayer books they are relatable stories to children of any age. Overall it is a good read but there are stronger themed Mercer Mayer books out there.

Such fun books.
These books are so much fun. My husband enjoys reading them to his grandsons. They don't take long to read and hold their attention with the pictures. My sons enjoyed them as children; now their children are enjoying them.

Love it
My two year old son loves helping dad and loves reading this book. It is a clean, fun story of little critter who has some mishaps while helping dad. Favorite wholesome line: dad gets a ticket. He says "I am not mad, just not happy." I say "that's fair dad."

Great product. Must buy for parents who want their child to pick up a reading habit.
Short sentences to make reading easy & interesting. Cute graphics make the child return to the book often. Very funny & relatable stories. My 5 year old picked up the habit of reading, thanks to the I Can Read series. A pre-schooler can easily identify words, helped by the parent. After a few reads, they read by themselves. The book is too pricey though, hence taking a star off.
