The Lighthouse (Five Island Cove Book 1)

Great book
I made the mistake of listening to The Glass Dolphin first and was totally lost but once I listened to this book, I understood the characters so much better. My first thought about these women was that this was a totally dysfunctional group. But then, I thought about my own group of friends and realized that this group was representative of real-life people, each with their own problems that most folks don't see. But no matter what, these women loved one another, accepted each other, and supported each other.

You never really know a person...
The lighthouse keeper passes away, and five female long-time friends return to the island to support his widow and mourn his death. However, it turns out he’s not really the person everyone thought he was, with each woman being negatively impacted by his actions. Although some of the characters’ back stories are a bit commonplace in novels (e.g. an empty marriage with a rich guy; successful in her career but not in love; etc.) there are enough secrets going around to keep you interested to the very end. A quick, entertaining read.

Challenges
Kristen was like a mother to the five teenage girls who grew up together. They formed a group and called themselves the seafaring girls. Each had different strengths and problems to work through as they grew up. They grew up and moved on with their lives, separating to different areas. Twenty years later Kristen's husband died from cancer. Robin was the only one who had stayed on the island and wanted to get the group together to support Kristen with her loss. Lots of turmoil upon everyone's return when hidden stories come out.

I downloaded this book for free. I enjoyed the connections between the women. Keeping the 5 of them (their physical descriptions, personalities, pasts, current lives, and secrets) straight was rather challenging. There were at least 9 mistakes that shouldn’t have made it past proofreading. In my opinion, this author should address that first instead of cranking out another book. I’d read the next one, but I’ve checked the reviews and the cost is too high for a digital book with careless errors.

I am hooked on this series!
Unfortunately I read the summer sand pact book first so had to read the lighthouse for better background and character clarification. I am truly looking forward to all the books in the series

Some surprises are better skipped
Joel has passed leaving Kristen alone with her children and the Seafaring girls who were like daughters to her.Going through Joel's papers is not as simple as it appears. Read how Robin, Alice Eloise, Kelli AJ and Krisren cope with the discoveries and their consequences.

A wonderful book filled with lots of wonderful reading and very interesting women and their lives.
I was browsing through Amazon’s website and came upon Jessie Newton’s : The Lighthouse book on another author’s page, I read the write up on it and decided to order it, when it arrived I started reading it and was hooked, so I ordered the next books in the series and have read them all now and am waiting for the next book to come out in May/2022 - called Rebuilding the Friendship Inn, I was not disappointed in these books in fact I couldn’t put them down, they are well written and very interesting the subject of women reuniting after all those years of being close at one time all or some of them at the same time, It has been great to follow them and see them evolve with each other and their families around them, they are all strong women and know what they want and go for it, and they also rally around each other when needed and support each other, and welcome newcomers into their circle of friendship. Thank you to this author Jessie Newton for writing such amazing books and I hope you keep up writing about these women and their ongoing lives as time goes by.

good read
Loved this book. The story line was easy to follow with no jumping back and forwards like some do. The characters were great and interesting in a light hearted way.

Good Read
I purchased book 2 on a Bookbub sale and part way in decided I should read book 1, The lighthouse first, and I’m glad I did. It was a good read, however there are lots of loose ends, and so many secrets that is was a little unbelievable, and the editing was just not good. So even though I loved the characters mostly, and lovestories of friendships , the loose ends and bad editing was annoying. For example, there’s the impression that Joel and Kristen didn’t have much money and couldn’t afford to send their son to University/college, and yet one of the secrets was that Keli’s dad’s business was failing and he thought Joel was investing into it, when in fact Joel had bought the shop out from under him. Where did he get the money to do that?Too many parallels, turns out three of the four that had left the cove had all purchased property back there and no one knew about the other. The dark secrets they discovered affected all the girls that left, even though they didn’t know at the time. The secret that AJ revealed at the end didn’t make sense as she said Joel, who was a coach made passes at her younger sister and she caught him with her “up against his truck with his hands all over her” and that she’d told her dad and he’d moved her to another soccer club further away, but nothing was done about a coach making heavy passes at young girls? So good bones to the story but needed must better editing
