Saved my MacBook Pro
I cannot speak for the longevity of this product, but am incredibly pleased with the performance and ease of installation for my MacBook Pro. I watched a video of how to do this myself and changed it out in less than 5 minutes. You will need a 00 Philips screwdriver (or a micro set from any dollar store, and use the smallest screwdriver in the set). Keep track of the tiny screws, and note where the longer screw were removed from for easily reinstalling the cover. After installation, I simply pressed command +R, while powering on, then opened disc utilities and erased the disc, and next reinstalled iOS. I read in another review that the disc must be erased so I made sure to try it myself (so who knows if that is even a required step, but it worked for me so I wanted to include it).Even a complete novice (me) had no problems completing this task, so I am sure you can too.

Great hard drive! (Important read if you have a 2006 MacBook 2,1)
At first, I thought That my computer was not compatible with this hard drive. When I put in the hard drive my computer did not recognize it but I did a little research and found that the cd ROM that installs the Mac software on my computer was one of the older OS.in order to fix this I had to update my computer software to lion. When partitioning my hard drive, it finally recognized it and I was able to install the OS onto the hard drive. So make sure if you have an older MacBook, to upgrade your software to lion (or snow leopard 10.7), in order for your computer to recognize the hard drive. My last review was June 20, 2013.It is now August 5, 2015 and I can say that my laptop is still running perfectly. This hard drive has given my 2006 MacBook a new life

Great BLANK hard drive, arrives in protective packaging and installs easily!
Great BLANK hard drive to replace the one that went out in my old MacBook Pro. This has absolutely nothing on it no operating system, files, or anything so you’ll have to install an OS on it. No instructions to install it as it’s just hardware itself but I feel it’s very easy and straightforward to swap out. I also have experience with breaking down and rebuilding computers, so I may be biased on that too. For complete newbies though, you just take off the back of your MacBook Pro, locate your hard drive, unscrew the tiny screws holding the old hard drive in place and MAKE SURE you keep track of those! I put mine in a little storage cup each time I removed one. There is also a small mounting plate that will keep the hard drive from wiggling around so you will have to detach that. After that, it’s as simple as unplugging the hard drive, plugging in the new hard drive, and doing everything in reverse order. It’s also very easy to do a Google search and find YouTube videos on how to do this.As for installing a fresh OS, that’s a little trickier but not bad. I can’t remember the exact steps but essentially if you have a disk you can install from that, you might be able to access disk utilities and download a OS from the App Store, or you can sideload an older OS onto a flash drive, and then install from there. The MacBook I was replacing the hard drive in maxes out at High Sierra so I wasn’t able to download Mojave from the App Store or even High Sierra from the App Store. I had to track down El Capitan and then load that but that was just my computer personally.

Will work with 2007 MacBook, but be aware of hardware and operating system installation issues
You'll find that the manufacturer of the hard drive (HD) you receives varies, and is a 5400 rpm. I only give it a 4 star because of the problems in installing the HD and operating system:1. Hardware installation is relatively easy with the correct tools, but be aware that this HD is thinner than the OEM HD that came with the macbook. This doesn't affect the ability of the HD to fit in or run on the macbook, but it may appear to be incorrect, so don't be discouraged.2. Installing OS X on the hard drive is not possible without OS X 10.5 or higher (i.e. 'Tiger' or earlier will not recognize the HD during the install, and will not allow reformatting and described below). No matter what OS X you use, once you've installed the HD, you'll have to go into the 'Disk Utility' and reformat/partition the HD by erasing it. I ended up having to buy the Lion (10.7) OS X and installing that, after first formatting/partitioning the HD by erasing it in the 'Disk Utility' option, before the OS X could find the HD. After the HD is reformatted and found by the OS X, installation is normal. I spent hours researching and talking with Apple tech to discover this, and I'm only assuming this erase tactic would have worked on Leopard. All of this only takes a few minutes to complete, but it will take hours/days to get the HD up and running in your MacBook without this knowledge. Hope this helps someone and good luck!

Saved me $1400!!
When my hard drive kicked the bucket, I was going to buy a new $1400 MacBook Pro. I cannot believe this $30 drive worked just fine! The physical installation was really easy (thank you, ifixit.com!), but honestly the next steps weren't. For one thing, it's not like you just replace the hard drive and you're ready to go. You have to use Disk Utility in recovery mode to partition the drive and create a subdrive (maybe not the right word)--figured that out by googling. Then, for me, my OS was totally gone and I kept getting an error message when I tried to download the OS through internet recovery. So I had to use another computer to create a flash drive boot-up for the installation. Another googling session. Anyway, it all worked out fine and it was totally worth it, and I'm thrilled that I saved all the $$$!
