House of Chess - Galaxy Staunton Wooden Chess Set Pieces King Size 3" Triple Weighted

I am very happy with this chess set. The pieces are very well made, sleek, and weighted perfectly. Personally I find the design elegant without being too boring or strange. I bought these pieces for my chess board. The squares on the board are 1.5 square inch and these pieces fit perfectly. The black pieces are a little darker and rose colored but it doesn't bother me. I have nothing bad to say about this chess set, it's beautiful. Comes with 2 extra queens and a little drawstring bag. The pieces seem very sturdy but I may even invest in a nice box just because I don't want them to get scuffed or break.

I wanted something on the smaller side, and this set is perfect. Great for carrying in your backpack on the offchance somebody you run into wants a game. I use it primarily for various exercises from the "Rapid Chess Improvement" book i've been working out of. These chessmen are very pleasant and sturdy. They can handle being whacked around like Fischer might handle them, or they have enough weight to feel good sliding them around. The extra queens are of course always a nice bonus, and the rosewood grain is very nice to look at. Definitely very impressive and detailed set for the money. I wish they offered it in 3 1/2" size as well, since this one feels so great. I'd also like to add that the shipping (from India) was very timely and arrived long before the ETA provided by amazon. 5/5*****

Upon receipt of the House of Chess 3" Rosewood Staunton Wooden Chess Set, I was very impressed with the quality and workmanship of the set. The set was shipped in a heavy-duty cardboard container. The pawns were each wrapped in miniature bubble wrap for protection, each of the other pieces was first wrapped in a sort of soft wrapping and then wrapped in the same type of miniature bubble wrap. This insured that the fine details of the larger pieces were adequately protected from damage during shipping. This was over and beyond what I have ever received with my other chess set orders over the past years.I was really impressed with the fine detail and quality of workmanship of each chess piece. The carving is nicely done and the finish of all the pieces is of high quality. The pieces are listed as being triple weighted and they certainly appear to be as stated, which adds a nice heft to each piece. Overall, I am very pleased with this set, and it will be prominently displayed along with my other chess sets collection.I would definitely recommend this chess set for the excellent workmanship and beautiful design. I would do business with this seller again.

It has a perfectly detailed design and is REALLY heavy. Everything matches what is advertised. I love it!

Nice looking pieces, one knight had an ear that was broken off and missing. Other than that, it's a nice set of hand crafted pieces.

These pieces are better than expected in regards to overall quality, attention to detail, and wood figure. The weight is also "just right".Shipping was fast and packaging was absolutely superb!The rosewood pieces in particular are beautiful to behold in the right lighting. But even the boxwood pieces display adequate wood figure, straight grain, and an even sanding/finish. I'm sorry, but these pieces do not deserve the praise they are receiving - unless my shipment is an outlier.The pieces on appearance are nice, and the size is fine, but the major flaw is that they are not triple weighted as adverized.They are not weighted at all for that matter. These are just basic wooden, felt bottomed pieces with no heft whatsoever.Some people claim these pieces are as good as (or better) "$200 pieces."They aren't.Quite honestly, they aren't worth the $59 I paid for them.Live and learn, repack and return.

These are well weighted for size. The light color is darker than I thought it would be, but goes perfectly with the chess board my husband made for me out of black walnut. I like the luster and the detail especially on the knights.
