Good quality and rugged
This is a very nice quality leather cover that is made with thick leather and heavy stitching. It does have a masculine, rustic, heavy duty look which I like. Despite being made of thicker leather than most, it folds flat under its own weight and does not resist closure. I recommend getting the 192 page moleskin 3.5 x 5.5 to put in it as the regular size moleskin or especially the field notes notebooks seem to be overmatched for this and not big enough to justify it. This is just my opinion. Overall I really like it and do recommend it and do agree it would make a great gift. The only possible misplay here is the pen loop. If there is going to be a pen loop, it probably shouldn’t be as long as this one as many pens fit only tightly and then do not come out the bottom end making it even harder to remove. Also, the pen loop seems to serve as a bit of an obstruction when using the left side pages of the notebook. Additionally, when a pen is in the loop it makes a larger bulge than when the pen is clipped to the fold of the cover. Look at my photos of the two different options and you can see the pen clipped to the fold of the cover is less bulky. I have seen other notebook covers that cut a notch at the top, at the fold of the cover, so the pen can be clipped there. I am tempted to take a razor blade and just skim off the pen loop and cut a notch at the top. This would be a very simple surgery and I think it would then be perfect. Remember, the whole concept of a pocket notebook is around mobility and to be able to whip it out of your pocket while on the go to capture an idea or jot a bit of information quickly, not necessarily while sitting at a table using it like a legal pad. It should be able to be used while standing and writing in it with it open in your hand. If a tight pen loop is preventing easy access to your writing tool or is making it difficult to write on left side pages with the notebook open in your hand, then that detracts from the function of it. Still, this notebook is an excellent value and will serve well for a long time. Definitely recommended.*************** UpdateI did remove the pen loop. See the photos. It was a good idea and am glad I did it. It is no longer in the way and the cover closes better without the obstruction. It folds flatter too without the bulge at the spine.

Lovely as a gift
In addition to the notebook being of very nice quality, it comes wrapped attractively for giving in a sweet cardboard box with a twine bow. Perfect for a man or woman

I LOVE IT!
I love the quality of the leather and look forward to watching it wear well with use. I with I'd seen this earlier in life to have gotten several for various purposes. Using it with my common place notebook or just to jot down bujo lists or thoughts make this book a joy to have in my purse or bag as a constant companion. Thank you for making such a beautiful product.

Stylish but not as sturdy or well built as it seems
I bought this as a replacement for the much more expensive and better built "daily carry" leather cover that I loved. It was affordable, looks, stylish, and does the job. However, there are a few points I'd like to make.1. The strong chemical smell that took about a week to go away was not pleasant.2. It is made of thin leather that may not hold up too daily abuse as well as others.3. The leather is thinly tanned and scratches easy, I put a big one across the top with my fingernail getting it out of the packaging.4. Its only stitched around to the edge of the front and back flaps, so the middle is not stitched and may wear out faster.5. The pen/pencil flap lays along the cover so when its closed it creates a bulge. It would be better if it was in the crease, depending upon what notebook and thickness you use it may not close well.It worked well with my field notes notebook and may work with a thin moleskin or other notebook of similar thickness but be aware that the fit and finish isn't as good as others out there and thicker notebooks may need a rubber band or something to keep it closed.

Good quality pocket leather case notebook.
It's handy, portable even in the field or on the trail. Durably built, but pleasingly fine leather workmanship. Practical size. I have a few different ones in the Field Note line and really like them all. You don't have to be just "in the field" to use and enjoy them, too! A good, handy thing to have.
